Experimental results leading to breakdown voltage (BDV) measurements conducted with blade-blade, hemisphere-hemisphere and needle-plane electrode configuration in air at STP have been reported in this paper. The applied voltage was 50Hz AC, the electrode material effect on the BDV's was studied in the needle-plane configuration by changing the plane electrode material. Electric field plots for various...
Magnetic-catalyzed SnO2 with Fe3O4 of CMOS MEMS gas sensor is proposed and it's based on the magnetic-catalytic sensing mechanism to increase sensitivity. Beyond the conventional power dissipation of heating to maintain a certain working temperature, a new approach for gas sensor with magnetic-catalytic mechanism works at the ambient temperature without the consideration of active heating. The design...
In this paper we demonstrate a novel characterization technique for the observation of the conductive filament in conductive bridging memory devices (CBRAM). The conductive filament is observed for a scaled memory element programmed under 10μA operative current. After the electrical programing, the C-AFM tomography enables the 3D analysis of the conductive filament within the switching layer.
The incremental cost for increasing the power of Li-ion batteries for plug-in hybrid-electric vehicles (PHEVs) is moderate. Hence, the reduction of fuel consumption by using battery power at high vehicle speeds rather than engine power results in high net present value for the total cost of the battery and future fuel savings. The variation of designed efficiency at rated power is also evaluated to...
Al/Ta2O5/Pt RRAM cell was successfully demonstrated with stable bipolar switching. Band alignment for the structure of Al/Ta2O5/Pt was obtained using high-resolution X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy to investigate resistance switching behavior. Hole barrier heights of Ta2O5 on metals Pt and Al were extracted using core level and valence band spectra. The energy band alignments of Pt/TaOx and Al/TaO...
In order to clarify the characteristics of spark conditioning carried out in parallel at several parts of electrodes, we studied conditioning process in a multi-gap electrode system with two rod-plane electrodes in vacuum. The rod material and gap distance of one gap was kept to Cu-Cr (d=5 mm) in some multi-gap electrodes. On the other hand, the rod material and gap distance of the other gap were...
Vacuum interrupters are now widely used for medium voltage switching up to 38kV in such applications as metal-clad switchgears, circuit breakers, etc. Vacuum interrupter minimizes the damage and loss of the contact points at the optimum zero point of current wave after separation of the contact points, due to its quick vacuum insulation recovery characteristics. The fixed and moving electrodes of...
Thermoplastic materials can be used as electrical insulation in various indoor applications when the proper electrical design and suitable manufacturing method are combined. The aging property of these thermoplastic materials is of great interest, in addition to their basic mechanical, thermal and electrical properties. A non-standard method has been developed within this work, where flat thermoplastic...
In the framework of elaborating a methodology for testing the resistance to electrical treeing of polyethylene (PE) for HVDC applications, electrical tree inception tests were performed before and after a thermal ageing on XLPE samples. For this purpose test objects of wire-plane electrode geometry were exposed to various voltage regimes. The obtained results show that a DC pre-stress followed by...
Calderon's method was generalized to deal with the image reconstruction of electrical resistance tomography (ERT) from partial boundary measurements. The electrodes of the ERT sensor are located on part of its boundary, which indicates that the Dirichlet-to-Neumann map is obtained on an open subset of the whole boundary. However, the Dirichlet-to-Neumann map is typically approximated from the data...
A new magnetic-catalytic sensing mechanism to increase sensitivity for CMOS MEMS gas sensor with mesh stacked sensing electrodes is proposed. Beyond the conventional power dissipation of heating to maintain a certain working temperature, a novel gas sensor with magnetic-catalytic mechanism works at the ambient temperature without the consideration of active heating. The design and fabrication is realized...
Space charge measurement in dielectric materials is very important to understand breakdown mechanism in power cables. Among several methods like pulsed electro-acoustic method, pulse propagation method, laser induced pressure propagation, the pulsed electro-acoustic method is widely used for space charge measurement due to ease of application. However, the signal obtained in the method does not represent...
We report progress on the development of a new technique that has the potential to enable the vacuum deposition of OLEDs with feature sizes ≤ 20um, and hence high resolution OLED displays. An OLED device with 16um by 130um sub-pixel size has been successfully demonstrated utilizing the novel idea of the in-situ shadow mask patterning method showing the capability of this method to achieve high resolution...
There has recently been increased interest in carbon-based resistive random-access (RRAM) memory. Carbon-based RRAM has the potential to scale to atomic dimensions, resulting in ultra-high-density and low-power memory. Here we report reversible unipolar resistance switching in hydrogenated amorphous carbon. The devices used in this study are fabricated using e-beam lithography with built-in series...
Electric arcs in electrical DC systems represent both an enormous challenge to switchgear (switch arc) and a serious hazard to humans and the whole system (fault arc). Hitherto existing literature states an negative impact of a parallel capacitance on the arc existence. For low voltage DC systems the behavior of free burning arcs in air is analyzed. The formation of arc-oscillations due to a parallel...

In electrically operated vehicles and renewable power generation systems the energy storage is a very critical component. Ultra-capacitors are an emerging technology which can be used in combination with batteries for effective energy storage. It provides...
Electrochemical double layer capacitor is a new technology for the storage of electrical energy. Electrical energy storage will be a critical issue in many renewable energy systems. Electrochemical double layer capacitor technology along with fuel cell or battery can address many issues related to effective electrical energy storage. An Internal resistance and pulse current are considered as output...
The linear relation between the on-resistance and compliance current in all resistive filamentary memory devices is valid over more than six orders of magnitude of resistance and current values for a multitude of various devices. The multilevel memory storage capability of a resistive cell relies on this remarkable relation characterized by a single constant K. In this work we show that the constant...
Resistive Switching Memories (RRAM) are one of the most promising candidates for future memory devices. Among other emerging RRAM concepts redox based resistive switches (ReRAM) attracted high attention to replace conventional FLASH technology. Here we show both on experimental and theoretical level new insights into nanoionic resistive switches. Of particular interest are recently discovered non...
The graphene/nano-MnO2 composite was synthesized by a chemical co-precipitation method. The crystal structure and the surface topography of all materials were characterized by means of X-ray diffraction(XRD), Fourier transform infrared(FTIR) spectrum and scanning electron microscopy(SEM). The results of XRD pattern and FTIR spectrum reveal that a high quality graphene has been synthetized successfully...
