This paper describes a novel scheme for a high resolution phase comparator and its applications. The phase resolution of traditional universal counter, using zero-crossing technique to count measurand, is about 1×10−4 Hz. The proposed scheme utilities fast analog-to-digital sampler (ADS) to detect sinusoidal signal from device under test and its analyzed resolution could reach 1× 10−6 Hz. This novel...
We report results of the output characteristics of a circular ring laser diode with two Y-junction output couplers which forms a hybridization of a circular ring resonator and a linear U shape resonator. It shows that the ring laser has two emission characteristic spectrums, a single mode emission at 652.86nm and a multi-modes emission at around 652.24nm at injection current of 300mA. Measurements...
Knowing the temporal features of soil moisture dynamics is essential for proper water resource management, fertilization management, and crop production. This paper proposes a recurrent dynamic learning neural network (RDLNN) to estimate soil moisture evolution by rainfall forcing. Long-term measurements of rainfall and soil moisture content were gathered. Soil moisture contents estimated from daily...
A 0.13µm 8Mb CuxSiyO resistive memory test macro with 20F2 cell size is developed based on logic process for the first time. Smart and adaptive assist write and read circuit are proposed and verified in order to fix yield and power consumption issues from large write speed and high temperature resistance variation. SAWM (self-adaptive write mode) helps to enlarge Roff/Ron window from 8X to 24X at...
This paper records a successful application of linear parameter-varying (LPV) technique to energy management upon DC electric scooters (ES). Postulating Dynamic Duality, we identify the ES dynamics into a LPV plant that captures the nonlinearity, whereof the steady and transient responses perfectly match with the measured data. Incorporation of this LPV plant with per-distance performances upon energy...
We measured enhanced forward and backward THz-wave difference frequency generations at 1.5 and 0.6 THz, respectively, from a PPLN rectangular waveguide. A theory accounting for large mode mismatch is derived to explain the experimental result.
Recent advances in sequencing methods allow the analysis of an unprecedented number of viral variants from infected patients and present a novel opportunity for understanding viral evolution, drug resistance and immune escape. In the present paper, we compared three technologies for amplicon analysis: (i) Next Generation Sequencing; (ii) Clonal sequencing using End-point Limiting-dilution for isolation...
The keynote contains two parts, one is the formal theory, the other is the current state. Though we have used the full title, this paper contains only the formal theory. Neighborhood system generalizes topological neighborhood system by simply dropping the axioms of topology. In this paper, we use it to define Zadeh's Granular Mathematics (GrM). The main results are: 1) GrM, though defined locally,...
We report recent progress for InGaN-based lasers diodes fabricated on nonpolar/semipolar substrates. We demonstrate single-mode green lasers operating with >3.5% wall-plug-efficiency and 100mW output power. In the blue regime we demonstrate single-mode lasers with >23% wall-plug-efficiency and high power lasers with >1.4W of output power.
The ability to improve the mechanical properties of a microelectronic package, including reducing the thermal-mechanical stress and increasing the die breaking strength is a long-sought goal in electrical assembly and packaging technology. Failure modes related with die backside stress caused by warpage or cosmetic defects may occur without a well control of die-backside stress. In this study, the...
For development of ZnO nanorods-based heterostructures an environmentally benign synthesis process and fabrication route are required. Zinc oxide nanorod arrays have been grown on (0001) sapphire substrates by a rapid hydrothermal method (in 15 min) from a solution of zinc sulfate and sodium hydroxide. Two different synthesis regimes have been identified which give different morphologies of depositions...
We report a tunable optical parametric oscillator using a 2D PPLN as simultaneously an electro-optic Bragg Q-switch and an optical frequency mixer in a Nd:YVO4 laser. >2-kW peak-power eye-safe light was obtained with this system.
A development of a power quality measurement system established by using the combination of LabVIEW and HAN(Home Area Network) home energy management system is presented in this paper. The power quality measuring system can be combined with IEN(Intelligent Energy Network) energy system and HEC(Home Energy Controller) system, according to IEEE 1159.3[1] power management system specifications, and used...
In this paper, La-incorporated with HfO2 thin films increase crystallization temperature which of thin films is observed from X-ray diffraction (XRD). By nano-Auger analysis, the results show that the Hf atom out-diffusion into Si substrate is increased when the La dopant in the upper layer. The out-diffusion of Hf also affects the thickness of silicate. It is suggested to be the origin of leakage...
High-performance graphene field-effect transistors are fabricated on two-inch graphene-on-SiC wafers. Epitaxial graphene was synthesized on SiC wafers by thermal annealing to form one to two layers of graphene. The graphene transistors possess high current density of 1mA/µm, and a cut-off frequency of 170 GHz is achieved for graphene FETs with a gate length of 90 nm. These results unravel the great...
In this work we discuss some results on stability analysis for nonlinear systems with time-delays. A central theme of the work is to treat state variables with time-delays as disturbances and uncertainties. The advantage of such an approach is that by exploring the robust stability properties of a system with disturbances, one may obtain various properties for a system with time-delays.
A 60-GHz vector sum phase shifter with single-ended-to-differential function for phased array receiver using 90-nm LP CMOS technology is presented. For 4-bit operation from 57–64 GHz, this phase shifter exhibits a gain error and a phase error for all the 16 states of within 2.5 dB and 11°, respectively. The RMS gain imbalance and phase imbalance between the differential outputs are under 0.8 dB and...
This paper presents a 50–70 GHz wideband I/Q modulator with improved sideband suppression. The sideband suppression improvement results from the on-chip HPF/LPF based broadband quadrature power splitter. The I/Q modulator exhibits conversion gain of −6 to −2 dB from 50–70 GHz. The LO-RF isolation is better than 36 dB. The sideband suppression is better than 19 dBc from 50 to 75 GHz.
This work explores a new technique for 3D aspherical Si microlens fabrication using a shadow mask. With the shadow mask, a convex aspherical SiO2 layer is sputter deposited on a Si wafer due to the anisotropy of deposition. The shape of the SiO2 is transferred to Si by DRIE to form the aspherical microlens. Microlenses with controllable apertures (0.4mm – 2mm in diameter) and focal lengths (1mm –...
