A new power efficient asynchronous circuit design is presented in this paper. By using new input channel restoring circuits and function block partitioning technique to restore only asserted input channels, the transistor area used in each asynchronous logic function unit and thus the load capacitance can be effectively minimized. As a result, the circuit power consumption can be reduced. Our simulation...
This letter presents a new lossless electron-beam layout data compression and decompression algorithm named LineDiff Entropy. The algorithm is designed to facilitate high volume data transfer and massively-parallel decompression in electron-beam direct-write lithography systems. LineDiff Entropy first compares consecutive electron-beam data scanlines and encodes the data based on change/no-change...
In this paper, we first compare different configurations of RF 3DICs. Through simulations, we research how different TSV geometries affect the dissipation loss, coupling effect, and group delay of RF signals. We also study electromigration issues of power TSVs. Finally, we demonstrate a TSV spiral inductor with a Q factor of 14.9.
Thermal-induced reliability problem can be very severe in 3D ICs. In this paper, Negative Bias Temperature Instability (NBTI) effect is addressed. We first propose an NBTI-aware simulation flow for 3D ICs. Using the flow and the MIPS789 benchmark circuit as an example, we demonstrate how we can evaluate digital 3D IC performance under NBTI. By comparing simulation results, we recommend to place critical...
In this paper, a new Add-Compare-Select unit for Viterbi decoder is presented. By implementing carry-save addition and most-significant-bit-first (MSB-First) comparison with 1-of-N asynchronous single track template, the computation speed can vary with different input data patterns, and thus performance improves considerably. A comparison between different circuit styles is also provided, which shows...
In this paper, a new asynchronous circuit design is presented. A special technique that enables fast forwarding is applied to the circuits, and the forward transition improves to less than 2. The handshaking process and cycle time of the asynchronous circuits are analyzed, and its performance and functionality under fabrication and temperature variations are evaluated through Monte Carlo simulations...
