Modern embedded systems manage sensitive data increasingly often through cryptographic primitives. In this context, side-channel attacks, such as power analysis, represent a concrete threat, regardless of the mathematical strength of a cipher. Evaluating the resistance against power analysis of cryptographic implementations and preventing it, are tasks usually ascribed to the expertise of the system...
We have developed an inexpensive inkjet printing process to fabricate percolation-based resistive strain gauges in a paper substrate. These strain sensors were fabricated by inkjet printing different suspensions containing conductive carbon black (CB). We have measured the resistance of these elements as a function of strain under low frequency cyclic loads to characterize the sensitivity of these...
We can reduce the grounding resistance of grounding object by reducing the resistivity of the soil, increasing the size of the area of ground, selecting the appropriate shape of the grounding (depth of the vertical ground) and increasing the number of vertical ground, etc. However, when the spot area is limited and soil resistivity is high, traditional grounding technology is difficult to achieve...
This paper describes the unique and versatile properties of AeroKret coating developed, manufactured, and marketed by AS&M Inc, and its diverse applications with emphasis on marine industry.
In this paper, we review recent progresses on metal oxide resistive switching memory (RRAM). RRAM device design is explored from different aspects including oxide/electrode materials, uniformity issues, and scaling down to single-digit-nm regime. We studied the stochastic nature of resistive switching in metal oxide RRAM and revealed the physics behind switching parameter variations in HfOx-based...
The aim of this study was to check the load resistance factored design (LRFD) codes for Korean softwood species. Three representative structural timber Lazix Kaempferi, Pinus koraiensis, and Pinus densiflora, in the northeastern South Korea were selected. For evaluating the bending strength, a full-sized specimen was used. In the test results, it seemed that the KFRI grading rule was suitable for...
Microvaristors are used particularly as lightning arrestors. In addition, they are used as electric field grading materials and stress control devices to reduce the localization of electric fields in various electric equipment. Nonlinear resistance properties are generally attributed to the high-loading of microvaristor fillers in the resin. However, high-loading is prone to cause aggregation and...
This paper describes the electric properties of new carbon materials derived from the chemical synthesis mixed with insulation oil or lubricating oil and sulfuric acid. New carbon material as an activated carbon has higher capacitance expecting for large electric energy storage system. The capacitance and internal resistance were measured as a function of mixture ratio of the materials using the capacitor...
Ethylene propylene diene monomer rubber (EPDM) is an excellent rubber for outdoor use. Silicone rubber (SiR) containing EPDM may show improved weathering resistance. Hence, EPDM is blended with silicone rubber with various blend ratios. After processing and curing, the electrical and mechanical properties of the SiR/EPDM blends are determined. The heat and weathering resistance of the SiR/EPDM blends...
The present research work is devoted to investigation of various modes of electrolytic-plasma cementation influence on peculiarities of structurally-phase conditions and hardening of constructional steel 30CrMnSi. Scientifically based low-powered and resources-economy type of processing has been selected and leads to stable ferrite-perlites structures formation providing higher mechanical properties...
Traditionally, oil-filled transformers have utilized cellulose paper as primary insulation. However, cellulose insulation is a relatively low temperature material and thermal degradation due to overload conditions and long-term aging can lead to transformer failures, Therefore, it restraints the development of high density power transformers. What's more, since the transformer oil has a relative dielectric...
This paper provides an overview of modeling of a group of commercially available solar cells to ease the study of solar powered electric systems. The models solar cells can be accurately used to predict the behavior of the system operation under different conditions.
Embedded passives devices are becoming increasingly important for next generation miniaturized systems. A Printed circuit boards (PCBs) is investigated in this paper with focus on passive devices. Film resistance, capacitance and inductance are embedded into the same board. The effects of embedded capacitors and inductance on signal integrity (SI) and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) have been...
This paper reports a high performance bandgap voltage reference, in which the temperature is distinguished by a simple on chip thermometer. Four similar performance bandgap references operate in different temperature ranges with high preference. Each bandgap reference works with the discussion on the principle of the quadratic temperature compensation. Two resistors made of different materials are...
4F2 selector-less crossbar array 2Mb ReRAM test chip with 54nm technology has been successfully integrated for high cell efficiency and high density memory applications by implementing parts of decoders to row/column lines directly under the cell area. Read/write specifications for memory operation in a chip are presented by minimizing sneak current through unselected cells. The characteristics of...
Lifetime of multi-layer graphene interconnects under constant current stress is studied for the first time. Under a stress current density of 20MA/cm2 at 250°C exposed to air, Mean-Time-To-Fail (MTTF) of uncapped CVD graphene wire is about 6 hours. It is shown that lifetime is mainly limited by defect formation due to graphene oxidation.
Full Paper — A first step towards the design of dual-circularly polarised reflectarrays with independent control of both polarisations is proposed in X-band. A reconfigurable unit-cell based on a circularly- polarised selective surface is studied at 8.5 GHz. It provides a 2-bit phase resolution in reflection for the left hand circular polarisation (LHCP) and is nearly transparent in right hand circular...
This paper gives an overview of recent works on metal oxide resistive switching memory (RRAM). We explored the stochastic nature of resistive switching in metal oxide RRAM and a 2-D analytical solver was established to explain the switching parameter variations in HfOx-based RRAM. As an example of application beyond digital memory/storage, AlOx-based RRAM was explored for neuromorphic computing.
This paper describes the students' awareness regarding the methods employed to mitigate the negative impact of computers on the environment. Several topics considered important by the students were analyzed — transforming computers into recyclable waste, increasing users' awareness toward extending computer lifetime, encouraging the reuse of old and obsolete computers, employing new ecological materials...
In this paper, recalling the key problems in the development of semiconductor refrigeration system powered by Photo-voltaic (PV) cells, we focus on the design of impedance matching circuit by which the system performance can be optimized to work under maximum power point (MPP) condition. A demo system that coordinates the PV cell, semiconductor refrigerator and proposed matching circuit is designed...
