A Power Hardware in the Loop (FHIL) platform implementation for performing real time simulations of electric systems is proposed. The test bench consists of a FSS'®E real time power flow calculation in combination with a controlled grid emulator. Experimental results are presented to demonstrate the performance of the platform.
Datacenter networks are becoming crucial foundations for our information technology based society. However, commercial datacenter infrastructure is often unavailable to researchers for conducting experiments. In this work, we therefore elaborate on the possibility of combining commercial hardware and simulation to illustrate the scalability and performance of datacenter networks. We simulate a Datacenter...
In this paper, we present Intercom, a simulator framework that provides separate components to address the interdependent aspects of IoT systems, such as sensing, physical interaction, wireless communication, and computation. We initially evaluate a scalable sensing and communication model, which simulates wireless signal strength measurements with an average error of 6.1dBm.
With cloud computing, the efficient management of resources is of great importance as an increased utilization of the available resources can result in higher scalability and significant energy and cost reductions. Experimental validation of novel resource management strategies is costly and time consuming, and often requires in-depth knowledge of and control over the underlying cloud platform. As...
Power hardware-in-the-loop modeling (PHIL) is one of advanced approach for test automation and verification of complex circuits and systems. This approach is most well used in power networks and power-trains. PHIL modeling is supposed part of a system is software model whether the other part is hardware item under test. A special interface algorithm supports interaction between computer model and...
The system architecture of a network system is of fundamental importance to the performance of computer networks. However, evaluating different architectural and algorithmic choices of network systems is usually difficult. This poster presents NetSysSim, a network system simulator implemented in SystemC. NetSysSim provides a hierarchical framework of different levels of abstraction. With SystemC's...
A wireless sensor network (WSN) is a collection of sensor nodes which can monitor the physical activities and attributes of a whole spectrum of objects and environments. The purpose of collecting this data and processing it in a meaningful manner requires that it adds significant value to the end user. WSN are deployed ever more frequently and applications vary from providing an early alert system...
This paper describes an implementation of a model-based methodology to validate an innovative Hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) scheme applied to a mechatronic modular structure for a packaging machine. This new HIL environment is implemented by means of a unique CPU and allows use of an ordinary personal computer for the HIL simulation of a module of the packaging machine, without any other hardware tool...
A technique of DEVS-driven (Discrete Event System Specification) distributed software systems validation has been proposed. As a case study the Composite Web Service usage scenario has been considered. There are have been considered two approaches to Composite Web Service validity checking - testing-driven one and the approach based on DEVS-driven simulation. Experimental results obtained have shown...
Workflows offer a great potential for enacting co-related jobs in an automated manner. This is especially desirable when workflows are large or there is a desire to run a workflow multiple times. Much research has been conducted in reducing the make span of running workflows and maximising the utilisation of the resources they run on, with some existing research investigates how to reduce the energy...
Simulation is often used to evaluate the behaviour and measure the performance of computing systems. Specifically, in high-performance interconnection networks, the simulation has been extensively considered to verify the behaviour of the network itself and to evaluate its performance. In this context, network simulation must be fed with network traffic, also referred to as network workload, whose...
Network simulations mostly focus on protocol observation, development, and prediction. However, newly developed protocol will take time to become standard and be implemented on network devices. A faster way of network improvement is to optimize existing network card parameters, because they are generic and protocol-independent. In this paper, we propose mathematical models to represent network card...
The simulation of aerospace vehicles is a challenging job as it consists of various expensive, fragile and unique subsystems. Apart from this, these systems are electrically connected and dynamically operated with the state of the art simulation setup. The first release of the software embedded in them may not fulfil its complete requirements, which may lead to failure of subsystems. So simulation...
Simulation of the RTL model is one of the first and mandatory steps of the design verification flow. Such a simulation needs to be repeated often due to the changing nature of the design in its early development stages and after consecutive bug fixing. Despite its relatively high level of abstraction, RTL simulation is a very time consuming process, often requiring nightly or week-long regression...
Task migration is the transfer of the execution of a process (task) from one processing element to another. It originates from the massive deployment of distributed systems in the parallel computing field to enable dynamic load distribution, fault resilience and to enhance data access locality. With the development of MultiProcessor System-on-Chip (MPSoC) architectures, the topic of task migration...
This paper aims to present applications of Computational, which uses the method of genetic algorithms to improve the flight paths of UAVs, applied in a simulator with a hardware Man-in-the-loop.
From a single SoC to a network of embedded devices communicating with a backend cloud-computing server, emerging classes of embedded systems feature an increasing number of heterogeneous components that operate concurrently in a distributed environment. As the scale and complexity of these systems continues to grow, there is a critical need for scalable and efficient simulators. We propose a networked...
Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) have been widely used for monitoring applications. However, due to the rigorous deployment environment, reliable operation of WSNs is difficult to guarantee. Thus, the assurance of WSN reliability should be concerned in order to measure physical quantities correctly and effectively, as well as to maximize the lifetime of the system. In this paper, concerns of WSN reliability...
Cloud Computing (CC) is a technological phenomenon that is becoming more and more important. Also Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) can increase their competitiveness by taking advantage of CC. This new computing approach promises to provide many advantages, and many SMEs are encouraged to use it. However, CC is still in its early stage -- for this reason we think that it is very important to study...
Advanced Distribution Automation (ADA) has become a topic of considerable interest in the electric power industry; moreover, for the development of ADA it is necessary to build new methodologies and computational tools to support the distribution networks (DN) simulation with Real Time Hardware in the Loop (RT-HIL) techniques, reducing the design and testing times at low cost. OpenDSS is a free powerful...
