This paper describes novel integrated transmission lines base on slotted-floating shield for ultra-wide band operation a millimeter-wave frequencies. The designed structures con sist of two main conductors used for signal and ground along with a floating conductor, which improves the per formance of the line. The implemented designs increase th line-impedance and reduce the wavelength of the guided...
This paper presents a Ruthroff type spiral un-to-un transmission-line transformer (TLT) with impedance transformation ratio of 4∶9. Our TLT is fabricated in Microstrip lines technology and covers a chip area of 1.02 mm × 1.12 mm. The simulated minimum insertion loss is 0.19 dB at 5.4 GHz, and the correspondent bandwidth of this TLT is 5.4 GHz (when the insertion loss exceeds 1 dB).
The goal of this paper is to compare two configurations of Ruthroff un-to-un 1∶4 TLT using coupled microstrip lines. Concentric and interwound Transmission line transformers were simulated by HFSS simulator. The simulated minimum insertion losses of the concentric and interwound TLTs are 0.27 dB at 5.4 GHz and 0.26 dB at 4.5 GHz, respectively. The correspondent bandwidths of these TLTs are 7.22 GHz...
A printed tri-band UHF RFID tag antenna for Monza4 chip which is mountable on metallic surface is proposed with a miniaturized size of 20mm × 35mm × 1.6 mm. A grounded patch is designed to realize the character of mounting the metallic surface. The meander shape lines are used to miniaturise the proposed antenna. To realize three bands, three microstrip parasitic ground lines of different resonance...
In this paper, a unit cell of composite right/left-handed transmission line (CRLH-TL) based on lattice network with microstrip monolayer circuit is presented. The right-handed (RH) and left-handed (LH) transmission lines with lattice topology are designed using microstrip quasi-lumped elements. Then one unit cell of CRLH-TL has been designed by cascading RH and LH structures. Finally, the physical...
This paper describes the design, modelling and characterization of transmission lines for millimetre wave silicon integrated circuits up to 65 GHz. The simulation results of three different EM simulators for a selected hybrid coplanar layout structure are presented. Two different deembedding methods are investigated and compared with respect to sensitivity to typical measurement errors. Finally both...
Here a method to design transmission lines with controlled characteristic impedance in the highly dense design requirement is presented. In this method a transmission line is designed as a slow-wave synthetic line by repeatedly disturbing either the signal or the return current by adding slots in the grounds over or under the line of interest. To verify the method we have designed and fabricated transmission...
Channel emulators are used to evaluate communication system performance either in absence of the real channel or to test the system's response for varying channel characteristics. For high speed differential digital channels bandwidths in excess of 20 GHz are common making it difficult to recreate the channel performance by electronic means such as FIR filters. An alternative solution is using a low...
S-type microstrip meander-line slow wave structure was designed and simulated. The effects of different structural parameters on the new structure were analyzed. The simulation results show that this microstrip meander-line slow wave structure has a similar dispersion characteristic with the traditional structure, and the center frequency expands to the higher frequency. The transmission loss and...
Surface impedance boundary conditions (SIBC) for lossy metal layers are presented that are not limited to the frequency range in which a metal layer is thicker than several skin depth. A metal layer is considered as a TEM transmission line so that the SIBCs can be obtained as the input impedances of an open ended and a short circuited transmission line, respectively. The SIBCs are verified for a MMIC...
Multiport, decade bandwidth Eleven feed for prime focus reflector is ongoing development for VLBI 2010 applications. Current version of this feed uses four differential lines used to excite the log-periodic arrays above ground plane. These excitation lines packaged in small central region referred as centre puck shows radiation from lines above 10GHz causing distortion in feed pattern. This paper...
A wide-band microstrip-to-microstrip via transition used for connecting integrated circuits and antenna array in a multi-layered low-temperature co-fired ceramic substrate is investigated in this paper. The via transition is decomposed into external and internal segments to facilitate the design. The equivalent impedance of internal segment, consisting of multi-layered through-hole via with four ground...
A compact waveguide magic-T design composed of open-ended microstrip lines and laminated waveguide in multilayer LTCC technology is proposed. Two orthogonal slots are used to excite even- and odd-symmetric field patterns, respectively, resulting in a good isolation between each other. An X-band waveguide magic-T is developed in LTCC to validate the proposed topology. The measurements agree well with...
This paper shows the design process and measurement data for a modified bi-directional equiangular spiral antenna fed by a microstrip to parallel-strip to twin-line transition on two substrates (20-mil thickness) with three layers (aligned vertically). By etching holes out of the spiral arms at the locations where the tapered parallel-strip line passed underneath, the impedance mismatch caused by...
The majority of commercial UHF RFID tags are based on the dipole antenna, and it is well known that tag performance degrades significantly when the tag is placed near a conducting surface. Here, we present a new antenna that operates as a dipole when in free space, but when placed on a conducting surface, it operates as a relatively efficient microstrip antenna. The antenna is shown to have near-optimal...
In this paper a methodology for taking into account the frequency dependence of a possible referencing (grounding) techniques in LTCC boards for satellite applications is presented. The aim of this work is to analyze and compare the input impedance and S-parameters values for different strategies of inter connection of the reference planes among them. The numerical analysis presented has proven the...
