The DSSC collaboration is developing an instrument for the detection of synchrotron X-rays (E >; 0.5 keV) at XFEL. The hexagonal pixels of a DEPFET based sensor with integrated signal compression will be read out by bump-bonded pixel readout ASICs. Each ASIC will have 64 × 64 pixel channels of 236 × 204 μm2 area, each one containing a low-noise (<; 50 e-) amplification of the DEPFET signal,...
The Daya Bay Neutrino Experiment is a neutrino-oscillation experiment designed to measure the mixing angle θ13 using anti-neutrinos produced by the reactors of the Daya Bay Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) and the Ling Ao NPP. The readout signals of the PMTs which are reacted by the Neutrino need to be accurately measured for the goal of the Daya Bay experiment which needs a measurement of sin22θ13 to 0...
A mechanical two-mass configuration and a readout circuit for a single-axis capacitive-readout accelerometer with ΣΔ force-feedback is presented. The system reduces electrical and quantisation input-referred noise through the use of negative springs, reduced gaps in the readout capacitors and maximised readout voltage. A theoretical analysis and simulation results are discussed.
The ILC ECAL front-end chip will integrate many functions of the readout electronics including a DAC dedicated to the calibration. We present a 14 bit DAC, designed in a CMOS 0.35 μm process and based on segmented arrays of switched capacitors controlled by a Dynamic Element Matching (DEM) algorithm. This DAC features an INL lower than 0.5 LSB at 5 MHz, and dissipates less than 7 mW.
This paper describes a readout channel suitable for infrared and terahertz bolometric sensors arrays where the signal integration is performed simultaneously with the analog-to-digital conversion in a columnwise architecture. By exploiting the need of an integrator both in conventional IR readout channels and incremental converters, the proposed circuit implements a 5-bit continuous-time incremental...
This paper presents a differential low-noise high-resolution switched-capacitor readout circuit that is intended for capacitive sensors. Amplitude modulation/demodulation and correlated double sampling are used to minimize the adverse effects of the amplifier offset and flicker (1/f) noise and improve the sensitivity of the readout circuit. In order to simulate the response of the readout circuit,...
This paper presents a CMOS capacitive sensing amplifier for a SiC MEMS capacitive pressure sensor. Noise performance and noise optimization studied from a theoretical point of view. This amplifier is a differential difference amplifier (DDA) with optimal transistor sizing to minimize sensor noise floor. The simulation result shows that the circuit can obtain a stable and linear voltage, and Continuous-Time...
A novel pixel readout circuit using a switched-capacitor integrator mode background suppression technique is proposed for long wavelength infrared (LWIR) focal plane arrays. It has ultra-low background suppression non-uniformity (BSNU) and no additional shot noise when suppressing the background current for improving signal-to-noise ratio and dynamic range. The BSNU can be as low as 529 ppm for a...
The paper describes the design of a front-end chip for hybrid pixel detectors optimized for good timing resolution (200 ps rms) and high event rate (150 kHz per pixel). Each channel consists of a fast transimpedance amplifier with 5 ns peaking time, a constant fraction discriminator (CFD), and a Time-to-Digital Converter (TDC). In order to cope with the rate requirement, a multi-event buffering scheme...
This paper presents a high performance readout circuit for Infrared detector. The circuit is composed of capacitor trans-impedance amplifier (CTIA) and correlation double sampling (CDS) circuit. The CTIA structure is used to convert the photo-current into voltage, and could obviously improve the readout accuracy of weak current signal. And the CDS structure is used to reduce the fixed pattern noise...
In the article, overview and analysis of the performance of capacitive sensing circuits for MEMS gyroscopes are presented. Their performance, advantages and disadvantages are given. The low-noise chopper stabilized readout circuit for capacitive measurements in MEMS gyroscopes is proposed.
A front-end ASIC for semiconductor radiation detectors is presented. It is composed of a Charge Sensitive Amplifier (CSA), a pulse shaper, and a Peak Detect and Hold (PDH) circuit. Poly-resistor is used as source degeneration component to reduce the noise of current source in the CSA. The ASIC has been designed in a 0.5 ??m CMOS DPTM technology and tested with Verigy 93000. The gain (PDH excluded)...
The design of a full integrated electronics readout for the next ILC ECAL presents many challenges. Low power dissipation is required, and it will be necessary to integrate together the very front-end stages with an analog to digital converter. We present here a 12 bit 30 MHz analog to digital converter using a pipelined architecture. It is composed by ten 1.5 bit sub-ADC with a final 2 bit flash...
An integrated readout circuit for Lab-on-a-Chip applications is presented. The overall system consist of a 640times480 array of capacitor sensors and actuators. Sensors detect dielectric permittivity variation thanks to dielectrophoresis (DEP) process. Usually for this kind of applications an off-chip analog-to-digital converter is used. As a consequence, the noise floor increases and high signal-to-noise...
