A new method for extracting respiratory rate from electrical impedance measured on the arms is presented. The method requires application of only four electrodes to the subject's arms and is suitable to be used in a portable respiratory rate monitor and decision making systems. Set-Membership filtering is used to reduce the effect of motion artifact on the signal.
Impedance measurement promises a fast and cheap method for characterization of virtually any matter. Especially for applications in medicine, biotechnology or food industry, bioimpedance measurement technique is believed to solve problems associated with established but time consuming and complicate methods. The practice, however, shows that despite of more than 60 years of intensive research in this...
A continuous time electrode skin impedance monitoring system is implemented in parallel with ECG monitoring. To avoid degradation of the ECG signal quality, chopper stabilized AC current sources are adopted. Measured impedance signal is used as a reference signal input for a post processing adaptive filter removing motion artifacts in the ECG signal. The impedance measurement core is implemented in...
Pulmonary Edema (PE) is a life threatening disease that needs special attention in the area of research and clinical diagnosis. The computer based technique is rarely reported to quantify the intrathoracic fluid for the diagnosis purpose. In the present paper software has been developed to detect and diagnose pulmonary edema using LabVIEW. The developed software is based on physiological measurements...
This paper analyses the use of Electrical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) to efficiently monitor cryoprotectant concentrations in cryopreservation protocols. The proposed technique can improve methods such as Liquidus Tracking (LT), allowing vitrification without exposing tissues to damaging concentrations of cryoprotectant at relatively high temperatures, and avoiding rapid temperature changes. This...
An integrated front-end architecture for in-vivo detection is presented. The system is conceived to be implanted under the human skin. The powering and communication between this device and an external primary transmitter are based on an inductive link. The presented architecture is oriented to two different approaches, defining a true/false alarm system, based on amperometric or impedance biosensors...
Cardiomyocyte death is a critical risk factor in a variety of cardiovascular diseases. At the level of individual cardiomyocyte, cell adhesion alters at the early phase of ongoing death. In the previous study, we developed the impedance-sensing technique for real-time monitoring cardiomyocyte adhesion. In this work, we demonstrated the application of our impedance-sensing technique in regulating cell...
