The group formation problem is a key problem in group learning. In this paper, we proposed a group formation system by using learning logs, which were collected from digital books system and Moodle system. We described the design and the usage of the system. In the future, we will evaluate the effective of this system.
This paper describes the development and evaluation of a user adaptive kanji learning system for JFL (Japanese as a foreign language) learners. Learning kanji is a real challenge for learners of Japanese as a foreign language. Since the context is important in the process of language learning, multiple example sentences to provide various contexts where the target kanji is used were implemented. In...
This paper describes our study where we aim to support onomatopoeia learning for Japanese language learners using the ubiquitous learning log system called SCROLL (System for Capturing and Reminding Of Learning Log). We have improved our system by adding a new function EPUB (Electronic PUBlication) in order to improve quiz efficiency and to enrich its contents. Our pilot evaluation indicates that...
This paper describes our continuous study in which we have aimed to support international students' job hunting in Japan with our developed career support system. Our previous evaluation revealed three agendas in our system. Reflecting its result, we have improved it by implementing epub-based eBook called AETEL. Evaluation of our new system is scheduled to be conducted in 2016 spring. It is expected...
This paper describes our study in progress where we have aimed to enhance career support for international students using the learning log system called SCROLL (System for Capturing and Reminding Of Learning Log). Job-hunting process is very unique in Japan. Students should begin the job hunting in their junior year and it takes 8.9 months on average. A questionnaire survey reveals that top two anxieties...
This paper proposes an approach of the spatio-temporal data mining in order to predict next learning steps (next ubiquitous learning logs to be learned) in accordance with their situations or context from past learners' experiences in their daily lives accumulated in the ubiquitous learning system called SCROLL (System for Capturing and Reminding of Learning Log). Ubiquitous learning log (ULL) is...
This paper describes the development and evaluation of a user adaptive kanji learning system for JFL (Japanese as a foreign language) learners. Japanese language education for international students is an emergent issue in Japan. Especially learning kanji is a real challenge for them. Therefore we have tried to implement our newly developed kanji learning system, which received good reputations when...
This paper tackles enhancing outside-class learning experiences focusing on JSL (Japanese as a Second Language) learners. Features and approaches of online tools for language learning are overviewed since knowing the pros and cons of each tool is essential for successful language learning and as a cutting-edge online project for language learning, a mobile and ubiquitous learning application called...
In our current research, we defined a ubiquitous learning log as a digital record of what a learner has learned in the daily life using ubiquitous technologies. A system named SCROLL was developed to support logging, organizing, recalling and evaluating learners' learning logs. Learners have to record their learning activities and register them to SCROLL consciously and most of learning chances are...
This paper proposes a Navigator system in ubiquitous learning log system called SCROLL(System for Capturing and Reminding Of Learning Log). Navigator system supports learning in terms of visualization of learning logs stored in SCROLL system. It informs learners of what and where other learners have learned visually and recommend other learning logs which are located close to them and navigate them...
In our previous works, we developed a system named SCROLL in order to log, organize, recall and evaluate the learning log. However up to now, we just use an active mode to record logs. This means that a learner must take a capture of learned contents consciously and most of learning chances be lost unconsciously. This paper proposes a system named PACALL (Passive Capture for Learning Log) in order...

This paper describes a ubiquitous learning log system called SCROLL (System for Capturing and Reminding of Learning Log). Learning log stands for the log of knowledge or learning experience acquired ubiquitously. This study primarily exploits a personalized learning and context-aware method supporting ubiquitous learning log system. Its aims lie in helping learners recall what they have logged (learned)...
We proposed SMALL (Seamless Mobile-Assisted Language Learning Support System) seeking for seamless language learning in our previous study. In this paper, we describe how far we have developed the system for the realization of seamless learning. As our first step, we aim to support English vocabulary learning, since vocabulary learning is one of the fundamental aspects of language learning. The initial...
This paper describes a ubiquitous learning log system called SCROLL (System for Capturing and Reminding of Ubiquitous Learning Log). The aim of SCROLL is to aid users to simply capture the learning logs they have learned, review and reflect their old learning logs, reuse the knowledge when in need, be reminded at right time at right place and be recommended others' learning logs properly. Both its...
This paper proposes a ubiquitous learning log system called SCROLL (System for Capturing and Reminding of Learning Log). Ubiquitous Learning Log (ULL) is defined as a digital record of what you have learned in the daily life using ubiquitous technologies. It allows you to log your learning experiences with photos, audios, videos, geography data, QR-code, RFID tag, and sensor data, and to share and...
This paper describes an adaptive learning system using mobile phone email to support the study of vocabulary learning. In our study we try to resolve a common problem which usually occurs in the mobile-based email or SMS language learning systems. To achieve this goal, we have adopted the methods of adaptive learning in our system, such as sending the contents to a learner following his or her interests,...
