With the growth in the number of PMUs in the electrical system, the discussion and understanding of performance requirements required in IEEE standard C37.118.1-2011 and its addendum IEEE C37.118.1a-2014 is of fundamental importance for the future specification, operation and maintenance of future interconnected power grids. This paper presents an analysis of two different algorithms for calculating...
In this paper, subspace methods are applied to the identification of the dominant electromechanical oscillation modes of a large power system, using ambient data. The data are acquired by a low-voltage WAMS. Complementary techniques for the preprocessing of the measurements, and the tuning of the identification methods, are discussed. Results for the Brazilian Interconnected Power System are presented.
In this paper the results of a study on automatic detection, identification and location of systemic disturbances are described. The signal used for detection is the frequency obtained by phasor measurement units installed at Universities (SPMS MedFasee BT). Problems associated with frequency behavior are discussed, and three filtering methods are used in order to generate signals suitable for signaling...
On November 10, 2009 a fault at the AC Itaipu transmission system led to a large scale blackout of the Brazilian Interconnected Power System (BIPS) with a 40% load loss. This event was recorded at outlet voltage by a synchronized phasor measurement prototype, the LVPMS, with PMUs (Phasor Measurement Units) installed in nine universities throughout Brazil. The recorded data contain relevant information...
In this paper, data acquired by synchronized phasor measurement systems are used for the system wide validation of models and data of the Brazilian Interconnected Power System (BIPS). Data acquired by two prototypes, the LVPMS, with PMUs (Phasor Measurement Units) installed in nine universities throughout Brazil and the HVPMS, with PMUs installed at four substations in a transmission utility, were...
