Ultra-stable lasers are core components of many precision measurements and clock experiments. The stability of the most stable lasers is limited by thermal noise of the reference cavities to which the frequency of the laser is locked. Overcoming this limitation is a serious challenge. We discuss an alternative route to ultra-stable light that circumvents the need for an improved reference cavity....
The Kroger Co. is one of the largest retailers in the United States. Its manufacturing division produces 43% of corporate brand units sold in its stores. Kroger??s 15 dairies operate at near-full capacity and produce all varieties of fluid milk, orange juice, cultured products such as yogurt and cottage cheese, novelty treats and non-carbonated beverages. Kroger and Visual8 Corp. have created a Flexible...
Drawing single mode fibers over a flame generates tapered fibers with waist diameters of approximately 13 micrometers and waist lengths of up to 90mm. We demonstrate how the profile of such tapered fibers can be determined. We then characterize the white light that is generated in a variety of such fibers, showing its dependence on waist length and waist diameter and demonstrating its dependence on...
The spectral broadening of the 50 femtosecond pulses from the Cr:YAG laser at 1.5 /spl mu/m in a tapered fiber with 1.4 /spl mu/m taper waist diameter is observed. The broadening mechanism around the second dispersion zero is studied experimentally and numerically.
