In the Botanic Museum of Berlin in Germany exist about 3.5 million dried plants on paper sheets. They were collected in the last two hundred years by many collectors among those was the famous researcher “Alexander von Humboldt”. because e every collector left his handwriting on the sheet the question came up if it is possible to find out automatically which sheet belongs to Humboldt's collection...
The research project "Herbar Digital" was started in 2007 with the aim to digitize 3.5 million dried plants on paper sheets belonging to the Botanic Museum Berlin in Germany. Frequently the collector of the plant is unknown, so a procedure had to be developed in order to determine the writer of the handwriting on the sheet. In the present work the static character was transformed into a...
The methods developed in the research project ldquoHerbar Digitalrdquo are to help plant taxonomists to master the great amount of material of about 3.5 million dried plants on paper sheets belonging to the Botanic Museum Berlin in Germany. Frequently the collector of the plant is unknown. So a procedure had to be developed in order to determine the writer of the handwriting on the sheet. In the present...
A retina stimulator has been realized in 0.35mum HVCMOS. The 22mm2 ASIC features wireless operation, custom ESD protection and programmable reference tuning. It has 232 channels combined with production-compliant testability and safety, and output swing as high as plusmn10V at all electrodes. The power overhead is about 20% of the stimulation power.
A 0.1mm2 autonomous and digitally programmable nerve stimulation pad cell in 0.35mum HVCMOS is used in a 232-electrode retinal implant. It provides greater than plusmn15V swing at the electrode in order to supply suitable stimulation currents into large electrode impedances. Customized ESD protection is used on all electrodes. Charge balancing is applied to prevent electrolysis
This paper presents the system and design of a retina stimulator with 232 electrodes in a 0.35mum HVCMOS technology. The requirements are outlined and the system architecture is explained. The stimulator provides more than plusmn15 V output swing, features full custom ESD protection at the electrodes and is fully testable. To prevent electrolysis through dc-currents, a new active charge balancer is...
How do you organize an "industrial strength" one semester educational programming project for up to 200 second year students? This paper reports on four years of experience with such projects at the University of Paderborn and the University of Braunschweig. Key properties of our project design are: starting with an existing large application, regular hard deadlines with peer reviews and...
