We incorporated a series of red laser dyes into silica xerogel matrices annealed preliminarily at 700°C. The spectral and fluorescence characteristics of these dyes have been studied. We have revealed essential stabilizing effect of these SiO2 matrices on the dye molecules in the S1 state, as a result non-radiating losses in this state are decreased and quantum yields of fluorescence Qfl are raised.
