We studied the generation characteristics of compact passively q-switched diode pumped Nd:YAG lasers. Lasing of 1064 nm with a pulse repetition of up to 100 kHz, a pulse duration of 2–27 ns and an average output power of 520 mW was realized with the use of a polymer q-switcher on the basis of polyurethane matrix doped with BDN (bis-(4-dimethylaminodithiobenzyl)-nickel) dye.
