Micro-Raman spectroscopy (μ-RS) represents an appealing technique in dentistry, allowing the in-vitro detection of analytic structure and molecular composition changes of dental and oral cavity tissues. The gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) is a site-specific inflammatory exudate deriving from the epithelium lining of the gingival sulcus. The GCF analysis is useful in monitoring the factors related...
Plasmons in the terahertz (THz) range have been observed in Bi2Se3 topological insulator films patterned in form of microstructures. These plasmons have been assigned to collective excitations of massless Dirac carriers located onto the Bi2Se3 topological surfaces. Their lifetime is mainly determined by the single-particle scattering rate and results scarcely dependent on temperature as expected for...
The potential use of micro-Raman spectroscopy for estimating the microstructural changes occurring in periodontal ligaments after orthodontic treatment was explored. An in vitro investigation on bovine ligaments was carried out in order to find the appropriate conditions for studying human cases. The results were compared with preliminary analysis from human samples.
Thin metal films with subwavelength hole arrays (meshes) have been fabricated for operation as optical sensors. Mid-infrared spectroscopy and electromagnetic simulations demonstrate that free-standing meshes are particularly suitable for sensing solid nanopollutants.
