In this paper, stability analysis of fully-differential active-RC filters with common-mode feedback (CMFB) networks connected at either the input and output terminals of the fully-differential op amps is presented. The results of such analysis, which were confirmed by simulation results, would enable the trading-off during the design process of the fully-differential active-RC filters to be more effective.
In this paper, a new expression for oscillating amplitude of CMOS LC differential oscillator is derived. Contrary to the conventional expression which was derived by assuming that the current from sourced coupled pair flowing though LC tank is a square wave, the proposed expression is derived by assuming that such current is a clipped sinusoidal, which is more in line with the real situation. By comparing...
This study presents distortion analysis of the fully differential Gm-C filters in which the imbalance of the differential input voltages is taken into consideration. Closed-form equations expressing distortions of differential-mode (DM) output voltages as functions of DM and common-mode input voltages are developed. It was found that the HD3 of the DM output voltage is independent of the input imbalance...
In this paper, relationship between the IIP3 of the doubly-terminated ladder low-pass Gm-C filter and the IIP3 of the transconductors employed in the filter is derived. It was found that the IIP3 of the Gm-C filter IIP3 is about 1.2 dBV higher than the IIP3 of the transconductors. Simulation results are found to be in excellent agreement with the analytical results.
A low-voltage low-power complex channel select filter for low-IF transceiver employing unbuffered single-stage opamp is described. The opamp imperfections have been compensated with a simple technique that is suitable for low-voltage low-power applications. A 1-MHz center frequency fifth-order Chebyshev complex filter has been designed in a standard 0.18-µm CMOS process with 1 MHz bandwidth and 0...
In this paper, phase noise in the widely used CMOS cross-coupled differential oscillator is analyzed using periodic time-varying method. The equation relating oscillator's key performance parameters and CMOS process parameters, which can be used for phase noise - power trade-off, is developed. The analytical results are shown to be in very good agreement with simulation results.
This paper presents compact structure of the ladder-based upon fully-differential Log-companding filter in [14]. The proposed filter structure is based on the exponential-state-space integrators with compatible input and output voltage levels. Based upon the proposed structure, the derivation of the all NPN-only 3rd-order fully-differential Log-companding Chebyshev low-pass filter is demonstrated...
In this paper, distortion analysis of the alternative doubly-terminated ladder fully-differential Gm-C filters, which are designed such that the differential-mode voltage experienced by each transconductor is minimized, is developed. The closed-form matrix solutions of the distortion of these filters are derived and simple in-band distortion equations are also given. It was found that the third-harmonic...
In this paper, a novel structure of fully-differential doubly-terminated ladder Gm-C filter is proposed. The proposed structure can be classified as another variation of the recently proposed alternative structure, which has much better linearity performance than the traditional Gm-C filter structure. Simulation results show that the proposed filter structure has better frequency response than the...
An ultra low-power low-voltage active-RC filter design with on-chip automatic tuning system is presented. It is based on the compensation method for compact low-gain amplifier and can be operated at supply voltages down to 0.5 V. Charge pump phase-locked loop technique has been adopted for automatic tuning system. A fifth-order Chebyshev low-pass filters with cut-off frequency tunable from 2 MHz to...
In this paper, interdependency between differential-mode (DM) and common-mode (CM) signals in fully-differential (FD) Gm-C filters is investigated. It was found that although DM signals are signals of interest in FD circuit, CM signals have non-negligible influence on the DM signals and vice versa. Based on the perturbation concept and state-space representation, closed-form solution of the harmonic...
In this paper, a compact MOS linear voltage to current converter is proposed. The proposed transconductor is realized by connecting a simple MOS differential pair to the newly proposed square-root circuits. The resulting circuit is compact, can be operated under low supply voltage and has high current efficiency. The proposed transconductor were simulated by SPICE using model parameter for 0.35 ?m...
A low-distortion tunable transistor-only integrator suitable for applications in the frequency range approaching the fT of transistors is presented. The circuit is a modified version of the recently introduced companding current-mode integrator utilizing the non-linear base-emitter diffusion capacitance of the BJT. A first-order approximation of the circuit characteristics is explained, followed...
