We report on the design and fabrication of a new type of microtoroid high-Q silica resonators monolithically coupled to on-chip silicon nanowire waveguides. In order to enable monolithic waveguide coupling, the microtoroid geometry is inverted such that the resonator is formed by thermal reflow at the circumference of a hole etched in a suspended SiO2 membrane. This configuration is shown to be conducive...
We present MZI Silicon Photonics modulators with an advanced transmission line design which overcomes bandwidth limitations arising from crosstalk and improves linear losses. Push-pull optical bandwidth of 22.2 GHz with VπL=1.6 V·cm is experimentally validated.
This work demonstrates a technique that allows optical near-field characterization of devices while preserving their optical properties. To do so, a liquid overcladding is introduced to emulate the actual overcladding of the final operational device while allowing the probe to sample the evanescent field at the core cladding interface for analysis by the near-field scanning optical microscopy (NSOM)...
Advances in nanoscale fabrication techniques in dielectric and metallic material systems has opened up new opportunities in photonics and plasmonics for solving long standing problems in information systems and telecommunication systems. Optics in general has the potential to solve some of the most demanding problems in information systems. It promises crosstalk-free interconnects with essentially...
