“Kawaii” is a Japanese word that represents an emotional value; it has positive meanings, such as cute, lovable, and small. In the 21st century, the emotional values of industrial products become very important. However, since not many studies have focused on the kawaii attributes, we focus on a systematic analysis of kawaii products themselves, that is kawaii feelings caused by the attributes such...
The vision-based bin picking using object recognition has been considered as an innovative manufacturing process in industrial robotics applications. In bin picking system, pick and place tasks are performed by robot which has been processed by measuring object pose. But it has to address challenge problems such as object appearance distorted by overlapping parts, lighting variation or reflection,...
We study an efficient ad hoc multicast communication protocol for next-generation large-scale distributed cyber-physical systems that we dub Computational Robotic Materials (CRMs). CRMs tightly integrate sensing, actuation, computation and communication, and can enable materials that can change their shape, appearance and function in response to local sensing and distributed information processing...
This paper proposes a design and control method for high-speed parallel robot. Improvement of several components of a robot is conducted from the previously designed prototype and thus better performance can be achieved. Stress analysis is conducted to improve the stability and reliability of the newly designed parallel robot.
We have developed and studied musculoskeletal humanoids. Our goal is to realize a more human-like humanoid as a real human simulator, which has the same muscle and joint arrangements as human's and can do natural and dynamic motions as well as humans. Especially, it is very challenging to design musculoskeletal structure which can contain a large number of high powered muscles. Now, we design new...
For the objective of the synthesis and the development of structural composite materials, direct metal oxidation, DIMOX introduced for hybrid composite processing. However, oxidation temperatures around 1100°C lead to the formation of porous ceramic materials. To utilize this porosity intentionally for foam production, a new approach based on synergetic effect of alloying elements, DIMOX and semisolid...
This paper describes a new method and a set of equations for calculating the force-deflection characteristics of the catenary anchor leg. The traditional catenary equations reference horizontal deflection of the catenary top to the catenary generation point which is used to mathematically ?generate” the catenary curve shape. The catenary generation point is not stationary; its horizontal and vertical...
The amphibious robot is so attractive and challenging for its broad application and its complex working environment. It should walk on rough ground, maneuver underwater and pass through transitional terrain such as sand and mud, simultaneously. To tackle with such a complex task, a novel amphibious robot (AmphiHex-I) with transformable leg-flipper composite propulsion is proposed and developed. This...
This paper reports on the first phase of an Australian inter-disciplinary partnership study concerned with professional learning of experienced engineers. It is a theoretically motivated, qualitative paper that aims to produce detailed descriptions of professional learning that arise within professional engineering work. The paper uses practice theory to conceptualise professional learning. By using...
For getting high quality air holder part, its' shape and demand are analysised, then determining the technology route, each procedure's extension size and the relative force are calculated, then the assemble of dies could be obtained. Thus CAD/CAE technology could reduce dies' design time and cost.
The aim of this study was to check the load resistance factored design (LRFD) codes for Korean softwood species. Three representative structural timber Lazix Kaempferi, Pinus koraiensis, and Pinus densiflora, in the northeastern South Korea were selected. For evaluating the bending strength, a full-sized specimen was used. In the test results, it seemed that the KFRI grading rule was suitable for...
Magnetic flux compression generators (FCGs) driven by high explosives can produce extremely high magnetic fields that are useful in accelerating metal liners and sample materials to high velocities to study their properties. For material studies requiring extremely high energy and applied pressures, explosive FCGs can far surpass the typical performance of capacitor based systems. Flat plate generators...
Through the course of this paper transient thermal conditions were investigated for through hole capacitor models built in SolidWorks. Firstly, the influences of the shape, casing material are determined, after which lifelike models for aluminum electrolytic, ceramic and plastic film capacitors are built and their efficiency regarding forced cooling and thermal power dissipation is investigated.
We explore the problem of characterizing fragments using Par-aView in situ with an explosion simulation. By running in situ we can see a much higher temporal view of the data as well as potentially compress the output to only those statistics about fragments we care about. However, the fragment finding must be able to scale as well as the simulation. In order to achieve the necessary scales, we borrow...
At present work use nonsingular invisibility cloak as carpet is offered. Possibility completely the numerical approach to calculation nonsingular invisibility cloak of arbitrary shape is shown. Numerical simulation of invisibility carpet with arbitrary shapes is lead.
The paper is devoted to comparative analysis of the structure and mechanical properties of leaded-tin bronze with lead inclusions of various morphologies. In order to obtain lead inclusions of certain morphology, casts are cooled at certain velocities. Low cooling velocities cause spheroidizing of lead inclusions, whereas high ones give prolate inclusions with torn uneven surface.
It was investigated the influence of local heterogeneities in the dielectric sample in the form of cylindrical holes of different depths on the parameters of the response signal using a multisensor control system based on the phenomenon mechanoelectrical transformations. The high efficiency of multisensor system to reliably register the local volume defects of small size was shown.
The composite molding process design systems are developed on specific manufacturing resources or specific environment whenever at home and abroad, which enjoys a poor versatility. We built the system structure and flow for composite process integration framework after the computer-assisted resin transfer molding software has been developed. Then, studied the template-based data structure and established...
This paper presents the problem formulation and design of compliant microgripper. The microgripper includes a fixed jaw and a movable jaw for engaging opposite surfaces of the article. Actuation of the compliant mechanism drives the movable jaw toward or away from the fixed jaw to close or open the jaws relative to one another. The travel path of the movable jaw is generally at right angles to the...
Magnetically controlled shape memory alloy (MSMA) can change its shape when it is exposed to a magnetic field, which provides a new way to produce linear motion and force. The MSMA material has another property yet: the MSMA material can change its magnetic property when it is subjected to mechanical force, which is known as inverse characteristics of MSMA. In this paper, a testing device which is...
