This paper presents three-dimensional shape optimization of claw-pole motors. The claw-pole shape is determined from the binary state of hexahedral cells. The cell states are optimized to maximize induced voltage and minimize the field current using micro-genetic algorithm. The optimization is successfully carried out without time-consuming mesh generation.
The grating eddy current sensor is based on the principle of lateral eddy current. Its precision is greatly influenced by the coil and reflector parameters. It is important to analyze and optimize those parameters so as to improve the precision. Therefore, it is necessary to make further research on how the sensor nonlinear error is influenced by parameters, such as reflector size, shape and coil...
Classical formulations of the shape matching problem involve the definition of a matching cost that directly depends on the action of the desired map when applied to some input data. Such formulations are typically one-sided – they seek for a mapping from one shape to the other, but not vice versa. In this paper we consider an unbiased formulation of this problem, in which we solve simultaneously...
The view planning problem is the problem that involves finding suitable viewpoints for vision-related tasks such as inspection or reconstruction. In this paper, we propose a novel view planning algorithm for a camera-equipped Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) acquiring visual geometric information of target objects in its surrounding environment. The proposed model-based approach makes use of iterative...
In this paper is proposed an optimized solution of DC electromagnet using design of experiments (DOE) and FEM. Before optimization, the technique of screening was applied to determine the most influent geometrical parameters on the static force characteristic. For this purpose, the response function was chosen to be the root square of the average of squares of the relative force for five values of...
The L1 norm has been tremendously popular in signal and imageprocessing in the past two decades due to its sparsity-promoting properties.More recently, its generalization to non-Euclidean domains has been founduseful in shape analysis applications. For example, in conjunction with the minimization of the Dirichlet energy,it was shown to produce a compactly supported quasi-harmonic orthonormal basis,dubbed...
Inertial reorientation of airborne articulated bodies has been an active area of research in the robotics community, as this behavior can help guide dynamic robots to a safe landing with minimal damage. The main objective of this work is emulating the aggressive and large angle correction maneuvers, like somersaults, that are performed by human divers. To this end, a planar three link robot, called...
Fluidstructure interaction (FSI) problems play an important role in many technical applications, for instance, wind turbines, aircrafts, injection systems, or pumps. Thus, the optimization of such kind of problems is of high practical importance. Optimization algorithms aim to find the best values for a system's parameters under various conditions. In this paper an approach for multi-objective optimization...
This paper describes a fast interconnect scheme and the optimized circuit for FPGA programmable interconnects to achieve great performance and static power reduction. The fast interconnect scheme including fast connection between logic blocks and optimization of wire segments are proposed to reduce path delay and increase connectivity. Furthermore, non-minimum channel length technology is applied...
There are numerous technologies and tools to acquire data related to the evolution of spatial phenomena over time. These data are typically organized as sequences of 2D geometric shapes obtained from observations taken at different times. The transformation of such sequences of 2D geometric shapes into spatiotemporal data representations, which can be easily processed and interpreted, has the potential...
Fourier descriptors technique has been used to extract the shape of an image based on Fourier analysis of its boundary. In this paper, a new feature extractor technique named Descriptors Average Feature Optimization (DAFO) based Fourier Descriptors shape descriptor is introduced. In order to examine the ability of this technique, this feature extractor is evaluated based on different image sizes and...
The shaping by hydroforming process involves several complex phenomena and presents several types of nonlinearities (geometric, material,…). The development of a hydroforming operation requires a lot of testing to determine with precision the optimum loads of trips and get a room without defects. Advances in digital tools have enabled manufacturers to simulate and optimize their production facilities...
In this paper, we model an essential feature of underwater mine hunting with the aim of suggesting improvements to existing search tactics. We derive the effect of correlation between multiple sonar images of an underwater mine target - where a correlator represents the relation between images of the same target. For example, with duplicate images of the same target the correlator shows the absence...
This paper aims to investigate the effect of distance metrics on the fitness landscape for model-based leakage localization and its impact on the performance of the differential evolution optimization algorithm applied to a theoretical water distribution network from literature.
PMSM machines with concentrated windings have become more and more popular over the last years. The biggest drawbacks of these machines are high cogging torque and the form of the back EMF. Standard approaches try to shape the back EMF sinusoidal to use standard field orientated control. In the following paper an approach is shown to shape the EMF by using derivative free minimization. Using this...
The article presents results of research on the calculation of the shape of a mirror reflector that has not a rotating symmetry. The objective function ensures the highest possible average value of illuminance and uniformity ratio of illuminance. Optimization calculations were carried out for different light source dimensions with the use of merit function. In this paper two strategies that help to...
CFSFDP is a clustering algorithm based on density peaks, which can cluster non-spherical data sets, and also has the advantages of fast clustering and simple realization. However, the global density threshold dc, which leads to the decrease of clustering quality, is specified without the consideration of spatial distribution of the data. Moreover, the data sets with multi-density peaks cannot be clustered...
Pursuit-evasion games encompass a wide range of planning problems with a variety of constraints on the motion of agents. We study the visibility-based variant where a pursuer is required to keep an evader in sight, while the evader is assumed to attempt to hide as soon as possible. This is particularly relevant in the context of video games where non-player characters of varying skill levels frequently...
This paper introduces a segmentation approach, where a discriminative dictionary with objects' shape information is learned, followed by a sparse representation based segmentation process. In contrast with state-of-the-art sparse representation classification methods using discriminative dictionary learning, the proposed method learns a discriminative dictionary containing both intensity and shape...
Environmental Microorganisms (EMs) are very diverse and live in every part of the biosphere (rivers, forests, mountains, etc.), playing critical roles in earth's biogeochemical cycles as they are responsible for the decomposition of waste. Currently, a lot of manual efforts through morphological analysis using microscopes have been put on looking for EMs; however, these methods are expensive and time-consuming...
