The array antenna consisting of rectangle form subarrays (modules) is considered. Modules are placed in space in two ways: on the plane and on the lateral surface of a cylinder, forming a multi-faceted array antenna. The effect of number of array's defective radiating elements (individual radiators or modules) on antenna pattern parameters and antenna directivity is investigated. Three forms of flat...
In the application of multiple-input multiple-output radar systems, orthogonal signals are transmitted by multiple antennas independently. A set of orthogonal signals need to meet the correlation requirements only for some known time shifts that lie within a window called zero correlation zone (ZCZ). This paper presents two methods for generating new orthogonal ZCZ sequences based on an existing construction...
In this paper, we propose a novel feeding circuit for switching an omni-directional and directive radiation patterns. The proposed circuit changes the radiation patterns by phase differences and switching of the feed elements, and it has five operation modes. We illustrate the operation principle, the output characteristics and the obtained radiation patterns. The analytical results show that the...
As the number of buses in multi-core SoC designs increase, bus planning problems become a dominant factor in determining the chip performance. To cope with these issues, it is desirable to consider them in the early floorplanning stage. Recently, many bus-driven floorplanners have been proposed in the literature. However, those proposed algorithms only consider the bus planning problem without the...
We have fabricated arrays of Pt nanowires with 2 nm width on the MgO(210) faceted templates and observed their optical second-harmonic generation (SHG) response. The SHG intensity pattern from the Pt nanaowires showed quasi-C2v symmetry. We have also found that the maximum SHG intensity from the fabricated 2 nm width Pt nanaowires was higher than that of thicker nanowires.
We introduce a new class of reflectarrays, namely, the aperiodic conformal reflectarrays, aimed at exploiting, as much as possible, the available degrees of freedom of the radiating structure, such as positions, orientations and characteristics of the radiating elements and the shape of the reflecting surface. A synthesis technique is outlined, properly dealing with key aspects such as the complexity...
The \emph{wavelet tree} data structure is a space-efficient technique for rank and select queries that generalizes from binary characters to an arbitrary multicharacter alphabet. It has become a key tool in modern full-text indexing and data compression because of its capabilities in compressing, indexing, and searching. We present a comparative study of its practical performance regarding a wide...
Accurate modeling of rotational core losses in AC electrical machines is necessary, theses losses occur at the roots of teeth and at the back of the slots in stator yokes of AC machines. In order to achieve a satisfactory model, the experimental measured data has to be as accurate as possible. The purpose of this paper is to propose a novel design of a magnetic circuit based on electromagnetic Halbach...
We propose a glasses-free 3D display, named fVisiOn, that floats virtual 3D objects on a flat tabletop surface. The approach employs a combination of an optical device and a circularly arranged projector array. It reproduces a light field optimized for a seated condition at a certain volume and forms a ring-shaped viewing area. In this principle, the optical device must control the traveling direction...
In this paper, we describe a side-view car detection algorithm based on template detection. The template is constructed according to car shape knowledge. The algorithm can roughly be divided into two stages, hypothesis generation and hypothesis verification. In HG step, we use Hough transform to detect wheels, with the shape knowledge we get a rectangular area to generate hypothesis area. In HV step,...
We propose a Monte Carlo method for determining the parameters of multipath components (MPCs) for ultra-wideband channels. A partially collapsed Gibbs sampler is used for jointly estimating the number, times-of-arrival, angles-of-arrival, and amplitudes of the MPCs as well as the sounding pulse from signals received by a 2D antenna array. Our system model accounts for propagation delays between the...
In the important domain of array shape calibration, the near-field case poses a challenging problem due to the array response complexity induced by the range effect. In this paper, near-field calibration is carried out using an unconditional maximum likelihood (UML) estimator. Its objective function is optimized by the particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm. A new technique, decaying diagonal...
Technologies such as cognitive radio, interference coordination and spectrum sharing are promising to provide higher spectrum efficiency and throughput, and spectrum sensing is usually the first step. Generally, an intentionally emitted signal shows directionality at receiver in many cases. Intuitively, if we find the feature that characterizes the directionality of received signal, we can use this...
A voltage controlled electrical stiffness tuning method has been demonstrated to correct phase and amplitude mismatches between the constituent resonators in a half-wavelength (λ/2) mechanically coupled array-composite towards maximizing its output power. Via tuning, a nine-disk array-composite using 3 output resonators achieves an output current 2.91× larger than that of a single one of its constituent...
Nowadays, people try to make more convenient assistive device for special needs persons. In this modern society, how to combine technology with assistive device has become a popular issue. However, assistive devices of hand impaired person for using computer are lack of demand. Therefore, to make the assistive device for whom are unable to use mouse is the object of this paper. In this paper, we implement...
Shape memory polymer (SMP) substrates compatible with cell culture are presented that undergo programmed changes in surface topography on command to direct cell behavior. SMPs are a class of active materials that can be programmed to transition from a stable temporary shape to a permanent shape by a triggering mechanism, such as heat. Here, an SMP surface topography was programmed to transition from...
This paper describes an optimized embedded memory diagnosis flow that exploits many levels of knowledge to produce accurate failure hypothesis. The proposed post-processing analysis flow is composed of many steps investigating failure shapes as well as cell fail syndromes, and includes advanced techniques to tackle incomplete data possibly due to tester noise and/or by faults showing intermittent...
This paper presents the design and testing of an image contour display system with vibrotactile array. The tactile image display system is attached on the user's back. It produces non-visual image and permits subjects to determine the position, size, shape of visible objects through vibration stimulus. The system comprises three parts: 1) a USB camera; 2) 48 (6×8) vibrating motors; 3) ARM micro-controlled...
The problems of vector graphics displacement over raster drawing due to magnification in Java Graphics2D are described. Demarcation of engineering drawing is a process of highlighting sections of interest by drawing clouds. The clouds were stored as an array of points that are combined with background image at runtime. Magnification of background causes unexpected displacement of newly drawn clouds...
Paramagnetic metals like aluminum alloys are used in aircraft due to their light weight. Magneto-optical eddy current imager (MOI) is a nondestructive magneto-optical technique that is used to inspect fatigue cracks and corrosion in the aluminum alloy of aged aircraft. Unfortunately, the quantitative distribution of distorted magnetic flux leakage (MFL) from crack tips is difficult to measure, and...
