A high order compact (HOC) difference scheme is proposed to solve the 3D convection diffusion equation on non-uniform Cartesian grids involving no transformation from the physical space to the computational space. A multigrid method based on this HOC scheme is developed to solve the linear system arising from the difference equation. Numerical experiments about a boundary layer problem are conducted...
We will report on the development of optical lattice clocks at LNE-SYRTE. Two strontium and a mercury optical lattice clocks were developed over more than a decade. We will give and overview of this work, emphasizing several unique features of the clocks. We will also describe application of these clocks to fundamental physics tests and as well as work relevant to a possible redefinition of the SI...
For the diagnosis of liver cancer using a biopsy technique, pathologists¡¦ decisions are mainly based on the spatial and texture information of the biopsy images. However, the diagnostic accuracy strongly depends on the pathologist¡¦s knowledge and experience, that is, such diagnostic results are subjective. Hence, to make an objective and high accuracy diagnosis for the liver cancer in biopsy images,...
A new family of Differential Evolution mutation strategies (DE/nrand) that are able to handle multimodal functions, have been recently proposed. The DE/nrand family incorporates information regarding the real nearest neighborhood of each potential solution, which aids them to accurately locate and maintain many global optimizers simultaneously, without the need of additional parameters. However, these...
In the conventional P300-based Brain Computer Interface, characters or commands are matrix-arrayed and each row or column is randomly and successively intensified. In this interface, a user needs to move his or her eye gaze to the character or the command that the user desires, which could be a problem for those with severe motor disability. To solve this problem, the use of Rapid Serial Visual Presentation...
We present a novel multi-class classifier that strikes a balance between the nearest-subspace classifier, which assigns a test sample to the class that minimizes the distance between the test sample and its principal projection in the selected class, and a collaborative representation based classifier, which classifies a sample to the class that minimizes the distance between the collaborative components...
Along with spectral efficiency (SE), energy efficiency (EE) is becoming one of the key performance evaluation criteria for communication system. These two criteria, which are conflicting, can be linked through their trade-off. The EE-SE trade-off for the multi-input multi-output (MIMO) Rayleigh fading channel has been accurately approximated in the past but only in the low-SE regime. In this paper,...
As the speed of sound is interfered easily in the complex environment, the positioning information given by SBL sonar usually has noises. To solve this problem, this paper gives a positioning method based on Kalman filtering, which lays a good foundation for the application of AUV in the complex ocean environment in future, and has a good value on the practical application of engineering. In details,...
Multi-standard applications encounter several developments in the wireless systems. A single receiver is required for any standard of communication. Software Radio (SR) is an illustration of this concept. This paper presents a design methodology to ease the design of a flexible RF receiver based on an analog discrete time Fast Fourier Transform (FFT). A proposed architecture named SASP (Sampled Analog...
Localization of mobile phones is important to location-based mobile services, but achieving good location estimation of mobile phones is difficult especially in environment whose path loss exponent is unknown. In this paper, we present a Wi-Fi localization solution specifically designed for dense WLANs with unknown path loss exponent. In order to leverage between the computational cost and localization...
Virtual Reality (VR) system is an effective experimental study tool within the areas of cognitive psychology, neurosciences and psychophysiology. In this study, a new VR system, called panorama manifestation (PM) system, was developed and it was compared with a regular desktop (DT) system for two experimental way finding tasks in terms of success rate (SR), completion time (CT), difficulty index (DI),...
In multi-dimensional data, Promotional Subspace Mining (PSM) aims to find out the most promotive subspaces for a given object. One major research issue is to produce top subspaces efficiently given a predefined subspace ranking measure. In this paper, we propose EProbe, an Efficient Subspace Probing framework. As opposed to commonly adopted strategies that produce an exact solution, this novel framework...
Abstract -- In this paper we propose an evidential fusion approach to combining the decisions of text classifiers. These text classifiers are generated by four widely used learning algorithms: Support Vector Machine (SVM), kNN (Nearest Neighbour), kNN model-based approach (kNNM), and Rocchio on two text corpora. We first model each classifier output as a list of prioritized decisions and then divide...
In this paper, a novel 3-D action recognition method based on sparse representation is presented. Silhouette images from multiple cameras are combined to obtain motion history volumes (MHVs). Cylindrical Fourier transform of MHVs is used as action descriptors. We assume that a test sample has a sparse representation in the space of training samples. We cast the action classification problem as an...
nowadays, local features are widely used for content-based image retrieval. Effective feature selection is very important for the improvement of retrieval performance. Among various local feature extraction methods, Scale Invariant Feature Transform (SIFT) has been proven to be the most robust local invariant feature descriptor. However, the algorithm often generates hundreds of thousands of features...
Sub-pixel accurate registration is the challenging aspect of super-resolution reconstruction. However, the blur contained in the low-resolution images will result in inaccurate registration and an unsatisfactory reconstruction result. Therefore, this paper introduces a blurred image sub-pixel registration method based on Non-Maxima Suppression (NMS). By analyzing the relationship between the image...
To realize opportunistic spectrum access, spectrum sensing is applied to detect the presence of spectrum holes. If secondary radios (SRs) randomly or sequentially sense the channels until a spectrum hole is detected, significant amount of the scarce spectrum resource will be wasted, since SRs transmit only after a decision has been made. On the other hand, with the use of an intelligent predictive...
The objective of this study is to develop land cover classification algorithm for Global and/or continental scale by using multi-temporal MODIS land reflectance products. Time-domain co-occurrence matrix is introduced as a classification feature that represents time-series signature of land covers. And the non-parametric minimum distance classification using Euclidian distance or cosine distance is...
Primary goal of data mining is determining new and precious facts and knowledge from the large databases. Privacy preserving data mining is one of the research areas in the field of data mining which deals with the side effects of the data mining techniques. The results of data mining techniques may produce complete or accurate data; it produces privacy issues regardless of their intended use. Most...
We present a comprehensive study of the frequency shifts associated with the lattice potential in Sr lattice clocks. By comparing two such clocks with a frequency stability better than 5.10−17 after one hour of averaging time, and varying the lattice depth up to U0 = 900 Er with Er being the recoil energy, we evaluate lattice related shifts with an unprecedented accuracy.
