In this paper, the use of carbon nanostructures as GPa high-pressure deformation and reaction cells on the nanoscale is presented. Controlled irradiation of multiwalled carbon nanotubes can cause large pressure (up to 40GPa) buildup within the nanotube cores that can plastically deform, extrude, and break solid materials that are encapsulated inside the core. Compressive forces from graphitic shells...
Multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) were successfully manipulated by dielectrophoresis (DEP) to form electrical connection between interdigitated gold electrodes (IDEs) and were demonstrated to serve as gas sensor for NH3 detection. The MWNTs were suspended in ethanol and deposited on the IDEs under the effect of DEP. After the evaporation of ethanol, the MWNTs remained between the gaps of the IDEs...
In this paper, we demonstrate three-dimensional assembly of nanoscale materials, including single-walled and multi-walled carbon nanotubes and Au nanoparticles on a flexible parylene-C substrate. The assembly technology combines top down fabrication (fabrication of the three-dimensional microplatform) and bottom up dielectrophoretic (DEP) assembly of different nanomaterials.
Highly-fluorescent, water-soluble and ambient-stable nanohybrids based on multi-walled carbon nanotubes and gold nanoparticles (Au@MWNTs) with high-density and well-distributed Au nanoparticles were obtained assisted by organic optoelectronic active molecules as an interlinker and stabilizer via a facile in-situ fabrication method in aqueous solution, and were confirmed by TEM, SEM, EDX, UV-Vis measurements...
We present a novel fabrication technique to fabricate functionalized CNT sensors rapidly using electrochemical deposition method. The basic fabrication process of this sensor includes fabrication of a gold (Au) microelectrode array by photolithography process, functionalization of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) with carboxylic acid groups (-COOH), and electro-chemical deposition of functionalized...
Nanoscale linear servomotors with integrated position sensing are investigated from experimental, theoretical, and design perspectives. Prismatic motion is realized using the interlayer motion of telescoping multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs). Position sensing can be achieved by monitoring field emission or by measuring resistance change between an MWNT and a gold substrate during sliding movement...
