Almost all data transmissions over long distances are transmitted through optical fibers. Fiber infrastructure is therefore very important and is necessary to protect it against fiber cuts caused e.g. by digging activity. Many network operators seeking appropriate solution for self protecting infrastructure system. We performed comparative measurement of the polarization based sensing system and the...
The high density code-shift-keying (CSK) using Pseudo Noise (PN) codes generated by combining modified pseudo orthogonal M-sequence sets (MPOMs) with biorthogonal code has been proposed. In this paper, synchronous code division multiple access (SCDMA) capability of the proposed system is clarified under the optical-wireless channel. Consequently, simulation results are in good agreement with theoretical...
In this paper, a compact triplexer is proposed by cascading three tilted multimode interference couplers for FTTH applications. AH components based on silicon rib waveguides. Firstly, a MMI coupler is designed to separate the 1310 nm wavelength band by using pseudo self-imaging technique. A tiled MMI coupler is then cascaded to separate the 1490 nm and 1550 nm wavelength bands. Numerical simulations...
We actualized a silicon photonics (SiPh)-based coherent optical subassembly (COSA) with a compact and low-height package for the next-generation transceiver form factors. We integrated optical functions required for transmitting and receiving digital coherent optical signals into a single SiPh chip. The COSA is applicable to 100-Gbps dual-polarization quadrature phase shift keying and 200Gbps dual...
The sensing characteristic of fiber optical current transformer(FOCT) is affected by linear birefringence. In this paper, evolution process of optical polarization is derived and linear birefringence's influence on sensing characteristic of FOCT is analyzed in essence. Phase difference of light field components during transmission process is resulted by wave vector's inequality in non-propagating...
A 5G millimeter-wave radio over fibre optical fronthaul system based on optical heterodyning, utilising an externally injected gain switched distributed feedback laser, is successfully demonstrated. Five bands of UF-OFDM are transmitted over 25 km of fibre and a 28 GHz Vivaldi Antenna wireless link. Transmission performance below the 7% FEC limit is achieved with an aggregate total data rate of 4...
We propose a novel method to measure the polarization mode coupling (PMC) distribution in polarization maintaining fiber (PMF) through nondestructive way based on microwave photonic filter technique. A proof-of-concept experiment has been conducted and proves the feasibility of our proposed method. The location and strength of PMC along the PMF links can be identified precisely.
A compact optical-microwave phase detector is proposed and its performance is evaluated by synchronizing an 8-GHz oscillator to a 250-MHz mode-locked laser. The residual out-of-loop phase noise at 1 Hz and 100 kHz offset are −115 dBc/Hz and −146 dBc/Hz respectively. And the RMS timing jitter is 600 as when integrated from 100 kHz to 1 Hz. The proposed phase detector has a compact structure and is...
Radiation cooling causes a non-uniform temperature field in the glass sample. In this case, heat flow arises in the sample and generates mechanical stresses and, as a consequence, optical anisotropy and birefringence. Modulation polarimetry technique for birefringence measuring was used. Phase differences between orthogonal components of linearly polarized light are linearly dependent on a stress...
With the increased significance of building a global secure information network, free space quantum key distribution provides a brand new approach of transmitting secure information between two distant parties based on quantum mechanics. However, the polarization state of single photon is vulnerable to the complicated atmospheric environment and may lead to failure of key distribution. Therefore an...
We conducted a comprehensive study using the spectrophotometric complex “Cary 5000” with the accessories “DRA” and “UMA”. We used this complex to obtain accurate, high-precision results for different material types, especially for single crystal optical materials in the range of the wave-length from 250 to 3500 nm in polarized light with different types of polarization and non-polarized light, in...
Oxyhydrate colloid gel parameters measurements and estimations are performed in this paper. Measured parameters are sizes of oxyhydrate clusters, concentrations, polarization vector values and some others. Measurements were performed with simple methods as measuring optical density, electric current value and microscopic observation. Accuracy of these observations is typical for these well-known methods...
Electronics technologies rely on the control of electric current in solid-state devices. The faster currents can be turned on and off, and the lower the energy dissipated in the process, the higher the performance and efficiency of the system. Here, we review the feasibility of generating and controlling electric current in semiconductors and insulators with few-cycle optical waveforms, within a single...
We propose a blind technique to identify the number of polarization in an optical signal using Principal Component Analysis (PCA). Experimental results verifying the proposed technique are presented. Additionally, the relation between PCA and Independent Component Analysis (ICA) are discussed.
We investigate how the lattice geometry affects the collective modes supported by nanoplasmonic arrays. Experimental measurements show that arrays with different geometries have different dispersions which are also dependent on the polarization. We further study the possibility of observing topologically nontrivial phenomenon in plasmonic system.
A heterogeneous platform i s demonstrated by integrating lithiumniobate and chalcogenide glass waveguides on silicon with optical transition through low-loss mode-converting tapers. The method provides an efficient utilization of second- and third-order nonlinearities on t he same chip for applications like stabilized octave-spanning optical combs.
We have proposed and developed array-antenna-electrode electro-optic modulators for 5G mobile communication systems in dense user environments. In this paper, we report a newly-designed device for the operation in 60 GHz band with the orthogonal polarization. This device is applicable for MMW wireless polarization multiplexing.
Electro-optically switchable photonic components based on zenithal bistable liquid-crystal gratings are designed and theoretically investigated. By properly selecting the material and geometrical parameters, we demonstrate that such gratings can operate as switchable beam splitters, beam steerers, quarter-wave plates, and narrowband guided-mode resonant filters. The switching dynamics of the proposed...
We studied petahertz electronic oscillations with 1.16-PHz frequency using gallium nitride (GaN) wide-bandgap semiconductor. An isolated attosecond pulse with coherent broadband spectrum reveals dipole oscillation with 860-as periodicity in the GaN electron and hole system.
Here we report an optical metamaterial with tailored chiroptical effects in the nonlinear regime, which exhibits a pronounced shift in its circular dichroism spectrum under a modest level of excitation power. Strong nonlinear optical rotation is observed at key spectral locations.
