In this paper, we overview the recent results in this fascinating field of research. In particular we discuss the recently observed interference effects in partially ordered systems, including the transport of optical pulses in Fibonacci quasi-crystals and the optical analogue of Bloch oscillations. We also discuss the various cases of random lasing and show how diffusive feedback can lead to spectrally...
This study demonstrates that Bloch oscillators have an essentially different nature from that of semi-classical charged harmonic oscillators and that it is indeed possible to extract a net gain from Bloch oscillations in semiconductor superlattices. By free-space THz electro-optic sampling method, this work has directly determined the spectral shape of the complex conductivities of Bloch oscillating...
In BECs, collisions between condensate atoms give rise to a nonlinear contribution to the dynamics which is typically included as a mean-field term in the Schrodinger equation. This nonlinearity leads to a modification of well-known effects associated with matter waves in periodic potentials and adds a number of phenomena that are absent in the linear problem. We focused on the dynamics of a BEC in...
The effect of an electric field on the electron resonant tunnelling into a double barrier structure is studied. We show for particular field strengths an increase of the tunnelling time which helps us to explain the Stark-ladder localization and to discuss Bloch oscillations and the quenching of luminescence in multiple quantum wells.
