The goal of this research is to develop an instant turn-on X-ray tube with high speed response. The tube is expected to produce a micro-spot less than 0.5mm at a voltage of 40kV and a current of 1mA. By CST simulation, the X-ray tube based on gate controlled carbon nanotube cathode was designed. Preliminary researches were carried out on carbon nanotube cathode fabrication, metal mesh electrode machining,...
In this paper we present the method to produce the multibeam field-emission structure with cylindrical projections made from glassy carbon and coated with thin film of carbon nanotubes. The design of the 7-beam cathode-gate unit consisting of a flat field emission cathode with metal film gate on insulating substrate and 19-beam field emission electron gun with beam compression is performed. It is...
The advantages of argon-ion-irradiated reticulated vitreous carbon (RVC) as a cold-cathode electron source are investigated in the context of a high current density, medium energy, low energy spread, high brightness electron gun.
There is interest in the use of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) to create a field emission (FE) cathode for the neutralization of exhaust plumes of low-power (<; 500 W) electric propulsion devices since FE cathodes do not require a gas flow to operate. To incorporate CNT emitters into propulsion systems, the current emission output over the lifetime of the cathode must be understood. Multiple FE cathodes...
A design study of a 0.1-THz coupled-cavity backward-wave oscillator (CCBWO) is presented using a finite element method and a particle-in-cell simulation. In experiments, the Si-based technology of 2-step deep reactive ion etching (DRIE) and eutectic bonding shows a good potential for the microfabrication of the interaction circuit. A miniaturized field emission cathode using carbon nanotubes grown...
The following topics are dealt: vacuum nanoelectronics; carbon nanotube field emitter array applications; field emission cathode; field emission display; field emission mechanism characterisation; photoemission theory; ZnO nanostructured materials; novel emitter materials; XPS characterisation; field emission triode and MEMS.
In this paper, newly developed high spatial resolution X-ray radiography system (HR-XRS) by modifying the compact SEM equipped with the MWCNT cathode former was reported. The X-ray images of the Cu 300 mesh were taken as a demonstration of the XRS. The resolution less than 1 mum was achieved. It is suggested that the MWCNT cathode is suitable one for the HR-XRS.
