We present a visual notation to support the understanding and reasoning about program edits. The graph-based representation directly supports a number of editing operations beyond those offered by a typical, linear program-edit model and makes obvious otherwise hidden states the code can reach through selectively undoing or redoing changes.
The RAISE'13 workshop brought together researchers from the AI and software engineering disciplines to build on the interdisciplinary synergies which exist and to stimulate research across these disciplines. The first part of the workshop was devoted to current results and consisted of presentations and discussion of the state of the art. This was followed by a second part which looked over the horizon...
A key goal of our research is to introduce an approach that involves at the outset using analytical reasoning as a method for developing high quality software. This paper summarizes our experiences in introducing mathematical reasoning and formal specification-based development using a web-integrated environment in an undergraduate software engineering course at two institutions at different levels,...
The world of component-based systems is as appealing as it is challenging. Components, as first-class citizens of component-based systems, serve as the main units of encapsulated functionality and also units of composition, with the intention to improve development efficiency and software quality through reusability, extensibility and analyzability of software. These benefits are obtained especially...
Reasoning is critical for non-functional requirements (NFRs) analysis and verification. Furthermore, it can provide rationale about implementation strategies for NFRs. The existing tools can execute an interactive reasoning process which sometimes needs extra information from stakeholders. We build a tool called rΣ for reasoning on NFR models especially when extra information is unavailable or forbidden,...
Software testing plays an important role in the life cycle of software development. Because software testing is very costly and tedious, many techniques have been proposed to automate it. One technique that has achieved good results is the use of search algorithms. Because most previous work on search algorithms has been of an empirical nature, there is a need for theoretical results that confirm...
