This paper mainly analyzes the impact of the maximum transmission unit (MTU) on application performance by using OPNET. Simulation models are created and amount of experiments for typical FTP applications are conducted. Based on comparisons with different MTU value and different scenarios corresponding to the FTP upload response time, optimal settings are found.
The paper focuses on the video publishing on the rented server. When the publisher publishes pre- recorded videos, he has to select a server from many server services in the Internet. In order to allow publishers themselves to select the optimal rented server (with the fastest response) in the Internet to publish the pre-recorded video, some indicators for selection are required. This study first...
Modbus protocol is a de-facto standard protocol in industrial automation. As the size and complexity of industry systems increase rapidly, the importance of real-time communication protocols arises as well. In this paper, we analyze the performance of the Modbus/TCP communication protocol which is implemented using the Network Simulator version 3 (NS-3). The performance evaluation focuses on the response...
The inherent structure of applications defined with hypertext markup languages is that of a graph. Push-enabled protocols like HTTP/2 drive the need for solutions allowing the server to traverse this graph and preemptively push related resources to the client. In addition to this, user interface adaptation to various mobile devices belongs to the server's tasks. Taking into account the diversities...
Resource efficient approaches are of great importance for resource constrained embedded systems. In this paper, we present an approach targeting systems where tasks of a critical application are partitioned on a multi-core platform and by using resource reservation techniques, the remaining bandwidth capacity on each core is utilized for one or a set of non-critical application(s). To provide a resource...
Cognitive networks rapidly proliferating into all aspects of computing and communication. Some of them are specially designed for the people with specific ability. However, very few are designed with assistance of the people with disability and elderly who need help during networking. The goal of this project is to study network accessibility issues and their impact in such cognitive network design...
Widespread use of SIP as a signalling protocol in VoIP networks is the main reason for tackling various challenges. SIP throughput can severely be degraded when an overload situation happens in the proxy servers due to several retransmissions from user agents. In this paper we try to prevent throughput reduction by properly distributing the loads over available proxy servers. The proposed scheme utilizes...
This paper presents a critical review of load balancing policies of network traffic loads composed of TCP/IP application protocols and applications and discusses the performance improvements sustained by such policies. The review introduces principles of network design of cost efficient networking infrastructures in an economy of scale suitable for global internet network traffic loads. Discrete event...
In this paper we outline a novel approach for accessing mutually exclusive resources in hierarchically scheduled real-time systems. Our method known as the Resource Access Control Protocol with Preemption (RACPwP) is an improved resource allocation protocol which utilizes preemptive critical sections to provide guaranteed determinism for hard real-time tasks and comparable response times for soft...
With the development of the Internet of Thing (IOT) industry, real-time multimedia data transmission services increased significantly. In this paper, we study the key problems of concurrent transmission of real-time multimedia, and we divide the transmission process into stream processing layer, transport control layer and multicast concurrency layer. Particularly in the transport control layer we...
Many modern Internet applications require fast client-server interaction to maximise user interactivity. This need has caused new work to be proposed to working groups of the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), which seek to remove bottlenecks when starting sessions. RFC 6298 improves Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) responsiveness by retransmitting lost SYNs, or first data segments sent after...
Large scale consolidation of distributed systems introduces data sharing between consumers which are not centrally managed, but may be physically adjacent. For example, shared global data sets can be jointly used by different services of the same organization, possibly running on different virtual machines in the same data center. Similarly, neighboring CDNs provide fast access to the same content...
Ideally, many application systems for distributed users should be designed without requiring a centralized controller, for example cloud computing or wireless sensor networks. A fundamental challenge to developing distributed algorithms for these systems is load balancing, which is the focus of study in this paper. A common feature of these distributed algorithms is that routing decisions should be...
OBS-based metro-regional networks can be interconnected through WSON networks to offer inter-data center connectivity. This paper validates, in a multi-partner testbed, the application of the H-PCE architecture for path computation in such Multi-layer, Multi-domain networks.
An operation of indoor and outdoor localization mechanisms cannot be fully integrated because the techniques and operation methods are different. As the consequence, a seamless mobility support in location based services for mobile applications cannot be achieved. They still face discontinuity of services when the mobile users move from indoor to outdoor and vice versa, or between WLANs and cellular...
The Middleware is a piece of software lying between the operating system and the application layer. Distributed applications are gaining popularity with the widespread of reliable communication services. It is affordable to have data accessible 24/7 from almost anywhere, thanks to the well-developed mobile technology and handheld devices. Healthcare domain is one of the very demanding application...
Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) has become popular as the Internet has been widely adopted. However, there are some new security issues faced by VoIP protocols. Using Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) as VoIP signaling protocol is introduced issues called signaling attacks. In this paper, we proposed a lightweight mechanism to protect SIP-based VoIP from signaling attacks by introducing an additional...
The net flow is increased gradually with the rapid development of Internet, therefore it is impossible and unaffordable to capture and analysis every packet in network measure. Many scholars have developed variety of packet sampling techniques. However, the parameters researched were not about network availability, and the difference among applications was not considered. In this paper, the conception...
The Sequence Chart Studio (SCStudio) is a user friendly drawing and verification tool for Message Sequence Charts (MSC). SCStudio supports several checkers that are able to verify properties such as realizability, time consistency, equivalence' checking between two MSC diagrams, etc. Some of them are well known, while others are new or nontrivial extensions of existing ones. The graphical front-end...
Hierarchical scheduling is instrumental to efficiently deploy component-based designs and achieve composability. It allows partitioning resources into multiple levels, hiding the complexity within each partition behind its respective interface. In this paper we focus on the network resource, particularly on Ethernet using ordinary COTS switches, and we show how hierarchical scheduling can be efficiently...
