This paper presents a microstrip dual-band bandpass filter (BPF) based on cross-shaped resonator and spurline. It is shown that spurlines added into input/output ports of a cross-shaped resonator generate an additional notch band. Using even and odd-mode analysis the proposed structure is realized and designed. The proposed bandpass filter has dual passband from 1.9 GHz to 2.4 GHz and 9.5 GHz to 11...
In this study, double-channel AlGaN/GaN high electron mobility transistors are designed with a slant gate field plate to improve the device breakdown voltage. Sentaurus TCAD is used for device simulation. At the first stage, the slant gate field plate is compared with a regular gate field plate to study the reduction of the peak electric field at the gate edge. It is found that the slant gate field...
An ultra-wideband (UWB) bandpass filter (BPF) with two reconfigurable notch bands is proposed, based on cross-shaped resonator (CSR) without using coupled line structure. With the use of even and odd-mode approaches, the proposed UWB bandpass filter bandwidth is from 2.8–10.9 GHz, with 118% fractional bandwidth (FBW), and the dual reconfigurable notch bands is tuned from 4–5.3 GHz, and 7.9–8.8GHz.
A new ultra-wideband (UWB) octagon monopole with three notched bands is proposed. Two pairs of folded dipoles and a rectangular split-ring are introduced to form the three notched bands. The presented antenna not only supports UWB application but also rejects the frequency bands in 3.8–4.4GHz, 5.4–6.4GHz and 7.8–8.8GHz to avoid potential interference with existing communication systems.
In the past decades, researchers have made great efforts to develop object segmentation algorithms and constantly improving the segmentation quality. Compared with object segmentation algorithms, object segmentation quality assessment is less studied. Especially, how to evaluate segmentation quality by subjective assessment, which is the most reliable way to understand and analyze segmentation quality...
The improvements of power efficiency and cost reduction enable light emitting diode (LED) to be deployed in a variety of applications. LED can be switched on and off at a relatively high speed than the conventional lighting sources; hence it is possible to use LED as transmitter for optical wireless communication (OWC). In this talk, we will discuss different schemes to enhance the transmission capacity...
We demonstrate using solar cell as optical receiver (Rx) for visible light communication (VLC). The solar cell is low cost and can convert the VLC optical signal into electrical signal without external power supply. As the response of the solar cell is very limited; we also propose and demonstrate using pre-distortion to significantly enhance the response of the solar cell Rx. A VLC capacity of 0...
Both MoS2 FET and FinFET are simulated and compared to experimental results and the impact of gate scaling-down on the transistor performance is studied. Though MoS2 FET shows better suppression of the short channel effect, its on-current is still lower than the one of FinFET down to 10nm physical channel length due to the low saturation velocity of MoS2. In addition, the improvement of mobility over...
For the future power electronics system, one of the key issues is to achieve more high power densities. At the moment, several types of silicon devices are widely used from the low voltage to high voltage ranges. To achieve more high power densities by size reduction and more high operating temperature, not only the device but also wafer material should be improved. The current status and future prospect...
The authors report the fabrication of cascaded GaN light-emitting diodes (LEDs) with previously reported p++-GaN/i-InGaN/n++-GaN tunnel junction layers (TJL) and with hybrid TJL. Compared with the conventional LED, it was found that we could enhance the output power by 35% and 80% from the LED with p++-GaN/i-InGaN/n++-GaN TJL and the LED with hybrid TJL. It was also found that the TJ resistances were...
A compact model of the loss tangent of the vacuum dielectric capacitor (VDC) in terms of the size of the VDC, capacitance, and ratio of the width of the boundary sealant to the width of the top electrode is presented in this paper. An analytical tool that can determine the optimal size of a VDC to achieve the desired trade-off between the capacitance and loss tangent is described. Although the VDC...
Developing high performance organic photovoltaics (OPVs) and organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs) are highly relevant and advantageous to the practical applications of the emerging flexible organic optoelectronics. Herein, through the incorporation of plasmonic and metal oxide systems, we report several effective approaches for enhancing the optical absorption and charge carrier extraction in organic...
Free space and on-road obstacle detection is one of the key functions for the implementation of the vision-based intelligent vehicle and robot navigation system. Stereo vision-based algorithm for this task is more realistic and precious compared with radar or lidar-based algorithms. In addition, accurate estimation results can indicate the current and approaching conditions in the complex traffic...
This paper proposes an impact metric for assumed software changes described in UML diagrams for embedded systems. The impact metric indicate that degree of ease to change software according to changes of requirements and designs, and based on complexity metric of UML class and state machine diagrams. We also demonstrate the proposed impact measure to conduct some experiment to develop a sample project...
An analytical model on the potential distribution and drain current characteristics for double gate p-n-i-n tunnel field-effect- transistor (TFET) is developed. In this model, the effect of channel inversion charge was taken into account and potential distribution was approximated by dividing the source, drain and channel regions into several parts so as to facilitate the analytical solution to the...
A CAM-based matching system for fast exact pattern matching is implemented on ASIC, using 65nm SOTB process, for very low power consumption. The system has a simple structure, which consists of Content Addressable Memory (CAM), AND, SHIFT, and an FSM, does not employ Central Processor Unit (CPU) as well as complicated algorithms. We take advantage of CAM which has an ability of parallel multi-match...
