Shopping carts have traditionally been used as a tool provided to the customers in retail stores to carry items from the shelf to checkout stations. These days shopping carts can also be used as a security checkpoint to prevent store losses. All the items collected in a shopping cart are supposed to be unloaded at the checkout station to be scanned and included in the bill. Any items left in the cart...
Many well-known existing image matching methods are based on local texture analysis, and consequently have difficulty handling low-textured 3D objects, such as those man-made buildings and road networks in urban scenes. In this paper, we propose our urban images matching method utilizing multiple novel clues. Specifically, we explore robust image features generated by interest regions and edge groups...
This paper presents a vision chip for laser spot detection. The sensor has an architecture that comprises a 64 × 64 pixel array with a pixel pitch of 38.6 μm × 30.8 μm and fill factor of 30% and two position processors that deliver coordinate position for both axes. Under maximum speed condition, power consumption was 103 mW, where maximum frame rate was 870000 frames per second. The maximum mismatch...
Dimensional measurement is often required in machinery manufactory industry. Vision-based gauging, as an emerging non-contact metrological instrumentation, can greatly facilitate reliable evaluations for their machinery products. In this paper, such a VGS (Vision-based Gauging System) was implemented for dimensional measurements and its industrial feasibility was verified. Both the systematic performance...
Depth information acquisition is one of the key technologies of FTV (Free View Television) system. To obtain accurate depth information, an improved depth estimation method is proposed. For each pixel in the reference view and current view, gradients between current pixel and its eight neighboring pixels as well as the average value of the nine pixels' luminance are computed. To increase depth accuracy...
Questionnaire survey is one of the important research tools to conduct quantitative information collections. The number of completed questionnaires is usually quite large and sometimes can reach thousands; therefore the data collections become one of the key steps during research. This study set out to find an automatic and vast input method by machine vision, so that the future designs for questionnaires...
In order to improve the measuring speed and accuracy of the surgical instruments inspection, a computer-aided measuring and analysis method was highly needed. The purpose of this study was provide surgical instruments manufactures with a surgical and microsurgical instruments inspection system, so as to ensure that surgical instruments came from assembly lines were manufactured correctly. Software...
In an eye gaze estimation system, pupil location is key part. And in order to get the position of pupil with high accuracy, edge detector algorithm is necessary. The Canny edge detector is widely used in computer vision to locate sharp intensity changes and to find object boundaries in an image. In this paper, we make a improvement based on dynamic threshold of edge detection algorithm. It makes up...
Image registration is an important task in the field of computer vision and pattern recognition. And the applied values is also reflected in the study of remote sensing, medical imaging and the object indentifying of multi-sensor fusion. In this paper, a new subpixel registration methods which based on wavelet analysis was proposed by improving polynomial subdivision algorithm and pixel level registration...
Using integral images for fast computation of sums of rectangular areas is very popular in computer vision. However the method does not extend naturally to rotations at arbitrary angles. We propose a novel solution to elegantly compute integral images at generic angles. Our method is exact in the sense that no approximations are used to derive it and it is vulnerable only to the unavoidable aliasing...
The ubiquitous application of eye tracking is precluded by the requirement of dedicated and expensive hardware, such as infrared high definition cameras. Therefore, systems based solely on appearance (i.e. not involving active infrared illumination) are being proposed in literature. However, although these systems are able to successfully locate eyes, their accuracy is significantly lower than commercial...
A simple method for lens calibration is presented. The method uses a fiducial disc and straightedge which are placed imprecisely within the field of view. Several inexpensive 6mm lenses and CCD cameras were used to validate the method. It is fast and accurate to a variance of less than half a pixel, which makes it a useful tool for computer vision.
