The compositions Ba0.8−x Sr x Pb0.2TiO3, with x = 0.2–0.4, are synthesized using ceramic route. From X-ray diffraction patterns, it is observed that with increase in x, the ratio of lattice parameters (c/a) decreases. From the observation of variation of dielectric constant (ε) with temperature, it is revealed that for x = 0.3 and 0.2, Ba0.8−x Sr x Pb0.2TiO3 shows a relaxor behaviour. On the other hand, for all other compositions, the phase transition is a diffused phase transition. For x = 0.3 and 0.2, the variation of Curie temperature (T m) with frequency obeys the Vogel–Fulchar relation. The investigations on the P–E hysteresis loop reveal that all the compositions possess useful values of maximum polarization (P max) and remnant polarization (P r). The present observations suggest that Ba0.8−x Sr x Pb0.2TiO3 can be a useful ferroelectric system.
