This work describes the integration of Augmented Reality and knowledge-based system applied to the innovation of the classic identification cards used in health system. Initial results are shown regarding the augmentation of physical elements (like cards, credentials, dogtags, etcetera) displaying virtual information and categorization based on the medical records of a person, using a knowledge-based...
This paper presents the design and implementation of an electronic ballast for powering a fluorescent lamp. The purpose of this work is to improve the efficiency of the ballast by implementing a Series Resonant Inverter (SRI) in half-bridge configuration instead classic Series-Parallel Resonant (SPRI); in order to allow to provide the voltage steady state of the lamp. By other hand, this DC-AC converter...
Microcalcifications are tiny calcium accumulations in the breast and are a warning sign of possible breast carcinoma in the early stages of its formation, so it is highly important for radiologists to identify them in a digital mammography and also to be able to discern in which category of BIRADS they belong. In this study the focus is to classify into BIRADS 2, 3 and 4, categories in which the advance...
The present paper is a brief history of the evolution of HPC at a research institution in Argentina. In addition to the historical review, we would like to show that two components are necessary in important projects: knowledge and Government's interest.
The development of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) in general and Software in particular play a central role in stimulating industrial productivity, tending to facilitate reorganization of production processes, logistics and distribution, as well as control over value chains and marketing, generating a higher level of value added tax on the final product and creating the possibility...
The territorial valorization of food products is tightly related to quality attributes and is currently the base of typification processes. In the construction of territorial identity based on honey coming from Apis-melifera bee, studies integrating melissopalinological and sensory analysis, and physical-chemical parameters have a significant weight in the definition of the botanical origin and allow...
We will be discussing how using robotics in two university courses helped students relate the topics learned in class to applications in real life of those topics. The changes introduced in the course structure created a different atmosphere in class and the way the students faced the newly learned topics.
The knowledge of the “state of practice” enables to improve knowledge transfer processes to industry, to know the processes and development techniques in use and to identify areas of interest in the industry that can be addressed by the academy. In order to know the status of the use of Requirements Engineering was developed an experimental investigation. The aim of the research was to identify Requirements...
This work consists in a wireless sensor network implementation(in the future WSN), wireless data networks and mobile phone service in order to follow people whose situation in the daily life is alone, isolated or with a particular impaired, making possible the alarms signal sending to the customized recipients in the application in use. This system is designed to detect or prevent different domestic...
Ultrasound images are widely used for medical diagnosis and for Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) in the industry. Among alternative imaging methods there are the Phased Array techniques, which allow processing ultrasound signals in real time and generating focused images within certain limits. On the other hand, there are synthetic aperture techniques, commonly called SAFT, which are post-processing...
This work presents the design and verification of a wireless communication protocol to be integrated in an embedded application. The system has been designed to be installed on wild vicuñas living in the Andean environment of the north-west of Argentina. The objective is to monitor the seasonal migration of vicuna herds. The mobile embedded system is attached to an animal and transmits on demand to...
The semiarid areas of Manabí province in Ecuador are notably decertified due to overgrazing for animal production. In this study, a selection of the best alternative plants as food for livestock using the entropy-weight method, which is based on Shannon entropy theory, is developed. The entropy-weight method was applied to calculate the criteria weights; and then, the studied plants were ranked according...
We present an implementation in graphical processing units of a numerical algorithm for the simulation of the nonlinear propagation of pulses in optical fibers. The implementation uses NVidia's cuFFT library to perform the large number of FFTs calculations required and parallelizes all vector sums and products. We show up to 50 × speedups as compared to a single-core implementation on a PC.
This paper presents a software certification project, developed for a government agency. The appeal of this case is that software certification is incipient in Latin America, and is the first time that IRAM Chile, in collaboration with IRAM Argentina (Argentinian National Standardization Institute) certified governmental software. The International Standard ISO /IEC 25040 has also been taken as a...
One of research areas of Systems Engineering is software development; for which, high level of programming using different languages is required. Therefore, students have basic, intermediate, and advanced programming courses, within their curriculum; currently these courses have a high rate of disapproval. In this article, we develop a case study on the programming course of systems engineering degree...
This paper describes the application of a framework that integrates educational web resources in the Learning Management System dotLRN. The case study was conducted in a school in the rural area of Cauca — Colombia. The LMS was used to support different areas of secondary education, applying the concept of b-learning. The evaluation was performed in the course of Geography in the 8th grade. GoogleMaps...
The various changes that have occurred in the electricity markets around the world have introduced competition among the participants in this sector. Thus, the generation agents that participate on electrical energy auctions may prefer to build optimal strategies to maximize their profits. Mathematical models based on game theory have been used in the analysis of electric energy markets and especially...
