A review will be given on the latest development of 1.55 µm quantum dot lasers. Static and dynamic properties of short cavity ridge waveguide lasers will be presented exhibiting data rates up to 22 GBit/s. The impact of structural and operational parameters will be discussed and compared with a simulation model. High-resolution linewidth measurements of distributed feedback lasers indicate with <...
Strong field processes can be used to track complex dynamics in filamentary propagation of ultra-short femtosecond laser pulses. We review latest results on the generation of high-order harmonic radiation generated directly inside femtosecond filaments and elucidate propagation effects through observation of the resulting pulse duration. Few-cycle pulses and their temporal dynamics are measured using...
In the SG-II upgrade project, a petawatt-class beamline is included for fundamental physics and advanced applications. Recently, an elliptical beam was employed for maximum energy while using pulse compression gratings with a size of 380mm×430mm and far-field fluence measurements were achieved in the target chamber.
Low threshold visible lasers are required for a number of applications including full-color mobile projectors, heads-up displays, optical information processing systems and a host of medical applications. Lasers emitting at λ= 420 nm (blue) and 520 nm (green), have been realized with GaN-based InGaN/GaN multi-quantum wells (MQWs) as the gain media. With one exception[1], these laser heterostructures...
In this paper we discuss design and optimization specifics of composite IIIV/Si waveguide gratings with 2D sub-micron optical confinement, as applied to DFB lasers. Specifically we calculate the coupling coefficient, measure and compare the theoretical and experimental results.
We demonstrate the effect of p-doping on threshold current density at low temperatures which shows distinctive behavior explained by spontaneous emission spectra taken at thresholds. Their full width half maximum accompanied with carrier distribution is higher in p-doped structure compare to undoped one.
Composite metal-dielectric-semiconductor nanostructures are used to design, fabricate and test nanoscale resonators and nanolasers that utilize various modes confined in all three dimensions. Integration with silicon photonics material platform is also explored and experimentally validated.
We develop a reduced model using 100 single-shot simulations for the output spectrum from a supercontinuum source using an As2S3 photonic crystal fiber that qualitatively matches the ensemble averaged spectrum expected in an experiment.
Ultra low repetition rate of 85.7 MHz is demonstrated in mode-locked semiconductor disk laser overcoming short carrier lifetime limitations. It is shown that fundamental mode-locking in such long cavity is supported by phase-amplitude coupling.
Distributed feedback lasers with an integrated thin-film of palladium have been fabricated and measured. Palladium's refractive index changes when exposed to hydrogen gas, producing a wavelength redshift and power increase proportional to hydrogen concentration.
Polarization pulse shaper is used in spectral phase retrieval for the first time (to our best knowledge). The implemented dual-quadrature spectral shearing interferometry is self-referenced and can measure pulse trains of 100% duty cycle.
