An RF window design of a 350 kW CW X-band klystron is described. The window has dielectric barrier made of pyrolitic boron nitride. The microwave power is transmitted through the barrier in the TM11-mode of the circular waveguide.
Electric fields at metal-dielectric contact were calculated analytically and numerically. The obtained field exhibited enhancements strong enough to cause breakdown at a triple junction and more apparently at a quadruple junction. Such field enhancements may lead to a noble type of cold cathode.
The experimental study of a Q-band gyrotron-travelling-wave tube (gyro-TWT) amplifier operating in the circular TE01 mode at fundamental cyclotron harmonic is presented. A periodic dielectric loaded structure is adopted in the interaction circuit of the gyro-TWT to suppress spurious modes TE11 and TE21. A saturated peak power of 175 kW is obtained corresponding to saturated gain of 53 dB and an efficiency...
We have studied the electromagnetic properties of a bi-helix slow wave structure surrounded by an azimuthally conducting screen formed by metal rings with and without capacitive gaps. The dependence of phase velocity on frequency and on the geometric parameters of the rings were measured on prototypes and analyzed. Novel designs of the bi-helix SWSs with circular metallization on the diaphragm supports...
Novel wide-band slow-wave structures (SWSs) with decreased periodicity are proposed for application in high frequency, high power TWTs. Prototypes of helix circuits with turns connected by ‘zigzag’ lines or by a periodic row of rings connected in the longitudinal direction were fabricated and their dispersion characteristics were measured and compared. Advantages of these circuits over conventional...
An RF pillbox-type window for a broadband multibeam Ka-band klystron whose cavities operate in higher mode is described. The window has a thick vacuum-tight barrier made of pyrolitic boron nitride. Its S-parameters are stable in respect of the barrier dielectric permittivity dispersion due to the energy transmission in the TM01-mode of the circular waveguide.
The w-band sapphire pillbox window had been designed in the article, with a bandwidth larger than 4GHz while VSWR less than 1.2. Structural parameters' effects on the bandwidth were analyzed and a relatively realizable assembling and welding structure was given out.
