This paper attempts to analyze the propagation characteristics of radio signal inside a partially open drain environment using an empirical approach. The proposed research topic concerns a unique situation in several Asian countries because the drainage systems in these countries differ notably from those in the US and Europe in that the former are partially open on the top while the latter are primarily...
This paper presents design and development of a new heart rate remote monitoring device using Microcontroller and wireless Bluetooth that transmits and displays precise readings of the heart rate on laptop. However, the signal is basically the number of beats per minute of the heart and should be monitored from time to time to detect any abnormalities of the heart rate. This system consists of two...
One of the outcomes in the last world radio communication conference 2007 (WRC-07) is assigning the 790-862 MHz band to the digital broadcasting (DB), and the new mobile system called International Mobile Telecommunication - Advanced (IMT-A) in co-primary basis in 2015. Until that year, the primary service (i.e., DB) should be protected from the new system (i.e., IMT-A). This paper investigates the...
The offline Dynamic Storage Allocation (DSA) problem is a well-known problem in combinatorial optimization. The problem is one of packing a set of blocks of arbitrary sizes on an area, with the objective of minimizing the area's usage along the y-axis, under the condition that the x-position of the blocks are fixed (as given in the input). The problem has uses in memory management, berth allocation,...
Living in a world surrounded by multiple devices such as smart phone, laptop, desktop PC and even tablet, it is important for the user to seamlessly transfer his/her session across these devices in a ubiquitous manner according to user preferences. While most of the systems either rely on realtime location tracking of the target device, or require users to remember the contact or IP address of the...
In this paper we design a set of spectrally efficient orthogonal waveforms based on Hermite Rodriguez functions. The design is formulated as a semi-infinite quadratic programming problem and subsequently Löwdin method is used to generate a set of orthogonal waveforms. This approach is able to produce many overlapping orthogonal waveforms with high spectral efficiency.
This paper presents a novel technology, that using multi-agent wireless network applied on wind turbine monitoring and control systems. It is an efficient technology to save wiring cost, compute locally, reduce the amount of data transmission, and improve reliability of wind turbines.
This paper provides a review of the development of TV White Space (TVWS) worldwide starting from motivations and rationales behind the move towards shared spectrum access approach. Regulatory, trials and standardization efforts are also described to see how this technology evolves over time from concept to maturity. With certain level of maturity, various possible applications of TVWS are discussed...
This study investigates the potential use of microwave scatterers (MS) for data transmission relay in order to extend the signal coverage over shadowed remote places where lineof-sight (LOS) transmission is not present. Series of indoor NLOS-CW (non-LOS continuous wave) measurements over the 29-30 GHz band were conducted at the intersection of two hallways in presence of two metallic cylinders of...
Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) which is capable of sensing, storing data, processing data and transmitting data has been widely applied in providing effective surveillance. Optimum sensor node placement in the surveillance area is needed since the number of sensor nodes that can be deployed are limited. The positions of sensor nodes must be able to provide maximum coverage with a longer lifetime. This...
This paper presents a novel technique to extract important road parametric values from a validated microscopic mobility model based on VanetMobiSim. The model simulates a 100 km2 urban road scenario taken from the area of Newcastle, Australia and measures various route parameters at different vehicle densities on the road. The mobility traces obtained from the model were analyzed in MATLAB to derive...
Having prior road condition knowledge for planned or unplanned journeys will be beneficial in terms of not only time but potentially cost. Being able to obtain real-time information will further enhance these benefits. Current systems rely on huge infrastructure investments by governments to install cameras, road sensors and billboards to keep motorists informed. These efforts can only be, at best,...
With the rapid development of coastal fisheries and marine tourism, especially fishermen in great demand for maritime mobile communication, a proper radio propagation prediction model on maritime mobile communication is indispensable. This paper presents Longley-Rice model to predict the loss of radio propagation for maritime mobile communication. Comparing with Okumura-Hata model and combing numerical...
With the rapid development of wireless sensor techniques and wireless communication techniques in recent years, Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) has achieved significant improvements. Sensor nodes deployment can be static or dynamic. The support of the mobility becomes one of the important issues in WSN. The problem caused by frequent topology changes is to find a tradeoff between reliability and energy...
As the Web development moves into its second phase of the Web evolution, it has been decided to set up a Web 3.0 research group aimed at constructing an electronic commerce platform combined with an electronic tracking system for agricultural products based on Web 3.0. This paper outlines the concept of Web 3.0 and how to build an agriculture business related platform using Web 3.0 technology. The...
This paper focuses on an intelligent approach of using Smartphone to capture the users' behaviour in a social network system, namely University-Cyber AgenT (UniCAT) system through a Publish/Subscribe Model (PSM) in a mobile network. The UniCAT is a multi-agent Social Network System (SNS) that captures and simulates the behaviours and daily activities of the people of Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman...
This paper presents a framework based on cellular telephony technologies using the short message service (SMS) and wireless application protocol (WAP) to assist effectively in the remote monitoring and control of an enterprise computer network. The work proposes a network monitoring architecture integrated with WAP and SMS to support the connectivity between network and Internet/GSM networks. System...
Wireless sensor network (WSN) is a new technology that can provide processed real-time field data from sensors physically distributed in the field. Based on investigation and applications in precision agriculture, a wireless agricultural and environmental sensing system for crop monitoring is presented in the paper. The setup of smart crop monitoring system is based on TinyOS while system test is...
Delivery of broadband telecommunication services in specific environments is often more easily realized by wireless systems than by roll out of cable networks. However, mobile and wireless broadband connectivity traditionally is also associated with extensive planning efforts and large investments. Wireless mesh network (WMN) technology, which is typically known for low infrastructure cost, rapid...
While security is an important feature in wireless sensor networks, but the energy constraints of sensor nodes should also be considered. In this work, the energy expenditure of such authentication protocol has been investigated respect to TelosB energy consumption behavior. Data Aggregation and Authentication protocol (DAA) integrates false data detection with data aggregation and confidentiality...
