In this paper we propose a new automatic 3D segmentation method for facial soft tissues on MRI images. We implemented a new region growing algorithm based on minimizing local energy functions. A consensus of many datasets, none of which were segmented a priori, is used to guide the segmentation. We applied our method to segment and visualize various facial soft tissues.
This paper presents the use of morphological profiles to understand the context of the scene of concern. There are many studies in the literature exploiting morphological information focusing on granulometry and anti-granulometry. The well-known morphological feature vectors are the morphological profile and its derivative, MP and DMP respectively. These studies mainly consider the most significant...
In this paper, the subject of removing unwanted objects (e.g. logos, stains, ads or the images of any kind of objects) from photographs without generating any perceivable distortion has been handled. An exemplar-based image inpainting technique relying on texture synthesis has been adopted to reach this goal. As the outcome of this work, it was observed that unwanted objects in images were removed...
Recently, extracting the demographic information like age, gender and race by using speech and face attributes takes much attention in the literature. In this research, we have focused on the implementation of a demographic information classification system and proved the relationship between spoken language and demographic profile of people. In the first step, the feature vectors of spoken language...
This study presents an automatic transcription system for Turkish music for the first time in literature. We first discuss the characteristics of Turkish music that are taken into consideration in the design of the system. Then, the following signal processing components of the system are described briefly in relation to each other and explaining their function in the system: f0 estimation, automatic...
The goal of classifying text or generally data is to decrease the time of access to the information. Continuously increasing number of documents makes the classification process impossible to do manually. In this case, the automatic text classification systems are activated. In these systems, large data space is an important problem. By using dimensionality reduction techniques and feature selection...
Image processing has been the focal point of considerable research activity in the last decade mainly because of its wide application areas. With the help of an existing image enhancement technique, Adaptive Unsharp Masking (AUM), proposed optimum parameters selection procedure has significant effect in terms of sharpness and contrast adjustment in images. The experimental results prove that AUM technique...
In this paper, the representation of chess readings adopting different notations in common figurine algebraic notation has been established. Following the analysis of chess readings, the transformations of recognized chess characters have been carried out, regarding chess moves have been made on chessboard, and the inaccuracies that may take place in character recognition have been eliminated by the...
In this study, a feature based tracker is developed in order to track platforms above sea-level in visual band videos. The covariance descriptor, known as an efficient method in object detection and classification problems, is used in the feature extraction phase of the tracker. The features or feature sets, extracted from the images in the database that is constructed for this work, are compared...
In this study, the Learning Vector Quantization (LVQ) network model is enhanced with attaching conscience mechanism to be used in diagnosis of thyroid disorders, so that network's disease diagnostic success percentage is increased and the conscience coefficients which is used in the network is obtained in an adaptive manner. It is observed that the LVQ network model created with this new mechanism...
In this study, a new Support Vector Machine (SVM) based method for diagnosis of diabetes is proposed. In the proposed method, feature of adaptibility is added to the support vector machine. Thus, a new kind of SVM named “Adaptive SVM” is proposed, and by using it together with the Feature Selection Method, smartly diagnosis of diseases is aimed. During the training and testing of this newly designed...

In this study, vegetation species were classified by using multispectral satellite images. A full wavelet transform is used to decompose the images into sub-images and the energy in each sub-images is assigned as feature for classification. These features were eliminated and classified by using neuro-fuzzy classifier with linguistic hedges. A classification accuracy of 93.75% was achieved by using...
In this study, an ABR measurement system, which is used for determining auditory functional loss, threshold of hearing and brainstem neurologic disorders is designed and implemented. The system consists of four main stages. In the first stage, bioelectrical signals which occur after the transmission of stimulus signals are accumulated from skull skin by using electrodes. In the second stage, the obtained...
Given a large image database and query image, efficiently finding all similar database images is an important problem facing researchers in computer vision. This paper proposes an approach for indexing image databases, where images can be represented as tree structures. The algorithm is based on graphtheorical concept named caterpillar decomposition which has been used in the literature for graph...
The present study deals with solution of antenna radiation problems in fractional dimensional space. Using the solution of vector potential wave equation in fractional space, we propose a novel generalized procedure for solution of radiation problems in fractional space. As an application we study the fields radiated by Hertzian dipole in α-dimensional fractional space. For all investigated solutions...
In this paper, opportunistic relay selection technique is applied to cooperative multiple trellis coded modulation (CMTCM). The outage probability of the opportunistic CMTCM system is analytically derived and it is shown that it exactly matches with the computer simulation results. The proposed CMTCM system using opportunistic relay selection decreases the decoding complexity for the same number of...
In this paper, an SCA based HF waveform implementation on an own developed single board computer hardware (GÖMSİS) is presented. The JTRS program in the United States is developing the SCA Standard which defines the specifications for new generation software defined radios. The software defined radios are expected to gain great flexibility and reconfigurability by the help of this standard. In this...
