A low-power low-noise amplifier (LNA) operating at 2.45 GHz has been designed for RFID applications. LNA provides a gain of about 14.5 dB, and a noise figure of 0.65 dB at the design frequency. Power consumption of LNA is measured as 6.5 mW and verified with Hspice.
UHF band microstrip patch antenna for RFID reader with a center frequency of 867 MHz, as specified in Gen2 protocol European standards, is designed. Patch antenna is printed on FR4 material with dielectric constant of 4.55 with dimensions of 10times12 cm, from measurements at 867 MHz S11 is observed to be -22dB with an input impedance of 42.4 Omega.
A portal provided with antennae could log Personal protective equipment (PPE) items and generate a warning signal when items are missing. Detection of PPE items before activating machines and technical equipment is also possible. Up to now such systems can detect the sufficiency of PPE but they can not distinguish between sheer presence and correct application.
There has been a considerable amount of reduction in transaction costs and decrease in stock shortage with the use of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology in automation. Most of the RFID networks include a wide range of automation technologies. These technologies are RFID readers, RFID writers, RFID barcode scanners, RFID smart sensors and RFID controllers. In this study, a solution has...
In this paper we describe some tests for a 13.56 MHz RFID system. These tests were makes in the laboratory. Through these tests we study the performance of 13.56 MHz RFID system in different work conditions.
In this paper, we propose a new receiver scheme equipped with quadruple diversity capability in UHF-band RFID reader system. The quadruple diversity receiver outperforms the conventional 1/Q diversity receiver by making use of additional signal paths. In particular, it is shown that the larger is the phase difference between the reader and the tag, the larger performance improvement we have. The performance...
RFID tags are an automatic means of identification and allow additional storage of information. Presently, it is estimated that RFID tags will replace bar codes, because one and the same tag can store the information carried by multiple bar codes. However, the current needs require a greater storage capacity than that which is available at present. At the same time, there is a strong relationship...
It is a fact that radio frequency identification technology (RFID) can benefit enterprises and contribute to their integration to supply chains. Several issues emerge concerning technology and economy of introducing and applying the system, especially in small and medium sized businesses. In 2005 Department of logistics and forwarding of Szechenyi Istvan University joined the program INTERREG IIIC...
This paper presents Web platform for business relations among great enterprises, corporations and groups, in order to optimize materials control on the entire supply chain. Each item and component will bear a transponder which allows their unique identification. Thus, on the basis of identification codes attached to materials and subassemblies, components and origin of each finished article, as well...
Growing competition and increasing demands from customers are forcing small manufacturers to consider investments in advanced technologies. For many reasons, such investments are often difficult to justify by means of a traditional economic analysis alone. As a result, it is often necessary to consider the system wide benefits associated with ATs in order to justify their adoption. The objective of...
A novel technique for radio frequency identification devices (RFID) based on remote measurement of complex impedance at microwave frequencies is presented. The low cost read-only tags do not need semiconductor elements and can be implemented by printing a conducting pattern on a low cost dielectric substrate. Multiple tags are simultaneously illuminated by a chirped microwave signal with a bandwidth...
With the advancements in technology and science, electronics have been getting smaller and smaller, which enables researchers and scientist to weave the electronics and interconnections into the fabric. This new technology enables to establish a new concept called "electronic-textiles (e-Textiles)", which allows cost-effective and efficient solutions for various applications. In this paper,...
In the current UHF RFID standards, there is no specific recommendation for the error correction capability. Whenever the CRC operation detects errors while receiving the EPC code from tags, the unidentified tags must participate in the next inventory round again. The identification rate then becomes significantly degraded. In this paper, we propose an error correction method on the return link for...
The product components and related data today represent a unit only in the early phases of the product lifecycle, this means that they build a virtual product unit in the phases of development and construction, only. In the late phases of their lifecycle (manufacturing, use and disposal) this product unit is splitted, separating the physical product from the related product data. This is exactly the...
There is an accelerating trend in the adoption of RFID systems for several applications. Implementations of RFID systems are critical investment projects because of technological problems, adaptation risks and high cost. This paper aims to develop a multi criteria decision support approach for selecting the most appropriate RFID system. The proposed fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (AHP) method was...
Since RFID systems start to share the supply chain market with the barcodes, new application areas have become attractive where the wireless radio-frequency communication and identification is possible. Unlike the passive systems, active RFID systems can be used as sensor nodes and they can monitor and store environment data, such as acceleration or temperature. However, the need of external battery...
In this paper, an overview of novel design and integration approaches for improved performance UHF radio frequency identification (RFID) tags with embedded power source and sensing capability is presented. Ultra-low-cost organic substrates, such as paper, with inkjet-printing capability are investigated for the UHF frequency band. The proposed technology could potentially revolutionize sensor nodes...
RFID systems have been gaining more and more popularity in areas such as supply chain management and logistics. As the development of RFID systems increases, the performance evaluation of these systems becomes more important. In this study, we propose an UHF bulk reading method for cargo operations considering factors such as antenna position, read redundancy rate and reading time. So we investigate...
The industrial sector of cheese production with specific quality protection occupies a relevant position in the industrial context of the European Union. In order for the sector to improve the competitiveness, solutions with emphasis in technological innovations should be done which increases the automation and quality control in the productive process. Moreover, the laws regulating the food industry...
This paper presents a study on localization and tracking of an object carrying an active RFID tag. The study incorporates processing of the signals received from transmitters, in a way to locate and track the coordinate in an indoor environment. During the course of the project, both outdoor and indoor experiments have been conducted. Empirical distance vs signal strength formulations are formed by...
