This paper describes the design of silicon intracortical stimulating microelectrodes for mapping of the functional organization in the central nervous system and potential neural prosthetic applications. Active microelectrodes with different configurations have been developed to facilitate various applications. In-vivo experiments were conducted in selected areas (auditory cortex, DCN, IC) in the...
A 64-channel neural processor has been developed for use in an implantable neural recording microsystem. In the Scan Mode, the processor is capable of detecting neural spikes using programmable positive, negative, or biphasic thresholds. Spikes are tagged with their associated channel addresses and formed into 18 b data words that are sent serially to the external host. In the Monitor Mode, two channels...
In this paper we present a novel multiple channel microelectrode system capable of recording field potential and cellular firing activity from the cortex of patients having medically intractable epilepsy. With the aid of this system, we can have a more detailed insight into the cortical mechanisms of epilepsy. The main concepts of the system design and some of the preliminary results are discussed.
