Linear switch reluctance machine (LSRM) has been a promising candidate for long rail linear transmission driving system as it exhibits low manufacturing cost. As its counterpart rotary SRM, LSRM has lower force density particularly with larger airgap. A new kind of hybrid excitation LSRM with both magnetic excitation and winding current is presented in this paper. The presented machine incorporates concrete ferrite-magnetic segmentations and magnets housed in the translator slot. The topology details of presented machine are given. The performance in terms of static force profile and flux linkage with various excitation current are compared to the machine with pure current excitation.
