As guided by bioassay to reverse chloroquine resistance in strains ofPlasmodium falciparum , three bisisoquinoline alkaloids pertaining to a novel group, the pavine-benzyltetrahydroisoquinoline dimers, were isolated from stem barks ofHernandia voyronii Jumelle. Their chemical structures were determined by conventional spectral methods assisted by the performance of the 2D NMR techniques, namely COSY LR, HMQC and HMBC.
