Based on the example of the town of Diamante in Calabria, (Italy), the author discusses development in small towns whose function changes due to growth in tourism. Architects have inserted new buildings into the existing landscape and architectural structures of towns and surrounding areas without changing their spatial arrangement, the general profile of the buildings, or way the town fits into the surrounding landscape. The town has become attractive not only for excursions, but also as places where one can live and work.
