Simple C*-algebras are constructed for which the ordered K 0 -group is not weakly unperforated. The algebras are approximately homogeneous and do not have slow dimension growth.
An intrinsic description is given of the range of the Elliott invariant of the class of simple C*-algebras which arise as inductive limits of sequences of homogeneous C-algebras with slow dimension growth. This is done by constructing such algebras with a prescribed invariant. The invariant consists of K theory and information about tracial states.
The ordered K0-group of the universal, unital free product C*-algebra Mk(ℂ)*Ml(ℂ)is calculated in the case where k is prime and not a divisor in l. It is shown that the positive cone of K0(Mk(ℂ)*Ml(ℂ))is as small as possible in this case. The article also contains results (full and partial) on the ordered K00-group of more general universal, unital free product C* algebras.
