A 1.7 µm band Tm3+-Tb3+-doped tunable fiber ring laser with an output power of over - 3 dBm was realized. The lasing band was from 1654 to 1750 nm. We used the developed fiber laser to evaluate the ethanol concentration of sake, and confirmed its potential, because our entry-level evaluation determined the concentration to within 1.5% accuracy.
