This paper models a 16-QAM coherent optical transmission system and evaluates its performance. The novel guide phase concept and noise averaging concepts are introduced to reduce bit errors. Simulation results show an improvement of the performance of the system with the adaptation of guide phase concept and noise averaging concept.
The amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) noise of optical amplifiers and nonlinear phase (NLP) noise generated due to interaction of ASE noise and Kerr nonlinearity are the two main sources of noise in optical fiber communications systems. This paper presents an analysis of the effects of ASE noise and NLP noise on the symbol error rate performance of M-ary quadrature amplitude modulated (QAM) signals...
In this paper an adaptive modified decision-directed algorithm (MDDA) for the electronic polarization control of the polarization-multiplexed coherent optical QPSK transmission is proposed. The algorithm utilizes a variable control gain instead of a fixed control gain. Simulations with a coherent QPSK transmission system show that this algorithm converges faster and experience minimum local oscillations...
The frequency spectrum bandwidth used in modern wireless systems is limited while the number of wireless systems is rapidly increasing. In order to alleviate the spectrum scarcity, secondary systems can opportunistically access the temporarily unused licensed bands of primary systems which are known as spectrum holes or white spaces, by altering their transmitting parameters so that the interference...
