We have made a diffraction grating in an indoline azobenzene/amorphous polycarbonate film by two-beam interference at 532 nm that periodically photodegrades the indoline azobenzene dye. Subsequent illumination of the film with 532-nm light into the trans-isomer band leads to trans-cis isomerization in the indoline azobenzene dye and results in a decrease in the trans-isomer band absorption coefficient...
The humidity and temperature characteristics of a 53 μm polyimide coated fibre Bragg grating (FBG) were investigated. The humidity response was 7.09 pm / %rh resulting in a coefficient of moisture expansion of 74.3 ppm /%rh. The temperature response was 12.8 pm / °C.
This paper looks at the development of a polyetherimide coated fibre Bragg grating based humidity sensor. Different fibre coating methods and coating thicknesses were trialled with a Bragg wavelength shift of 0.93pm/%RH achieved.
We present results from wideband THz, low wave-number Raman, and FTIR measurements on benzoic acid and two of its derivatives. The low energy vibrational modes have been identified and compared with the results from calculations.
The addition of structural modifications to enhance the temporal stability of the electro-optic (EO) chromophore, PYR-3, have not adversely affected the photostability. We find that the photostability can be enhanced by the addition of singlet oxygen quenchers.
Single beam z-scan measurements have been made on films containing amorphous polycarbonate and the zwitterionic chromophore, PYR-3, that has a very high second order nonlinear optical (NLO) figure of merit. The third order NLO figure of merit is ≈1.6 at 1030 nm and is comparable to that found in organic compounds optimized for high n2 values. The two-photon absorption coefficient is 2.1×10−12 m/W,...
