This letter presents a radio frequency micro-electromechanical systems (RF-MEMS) tuned cavity oscillator for X-band. The active part of the oscillator is implemented in GaN-HEMT MMIC technology. The RF-MEMS-switches are realized on a quartz substrate that is surface mounted on a low loss PCB. The PCB is intruded in an aluminum cavity acting as an electrically moveable wall. For a three-row RF-MEMS...
By extending the wireless backhaul network to higher frequencies, more bandwidth is available, enabling the higher capacity microwave radio links, to accommodate the increase in traffic from, for example, data use in smartphones. Products for the E-band (specifically 71–76, 81–86, and 92–95 GHz) are now on the market, and, as always, there is a drive for reducing cost, both in manufacturing and sourcing,...
The paper presents ten months path attenuation measurements versus hydrometeor events for the 71-76 GHz band of a 1 km GbE 70/80 GHz microwave link. Precipitation and path attenuation agree well with predictions from the ITU-R models. The impact of a finite rain cell across the link is observed.
