Harvesting energy from the environment by using a thermoelectric generator (TEG) or photovoltaic cells provides a solution for battery-free sensor networks or electronic healthcare systems. In these systems, the harvested energy is supplied at a very low voltages, requiring a low-startup-voltage power circuit for kick-start from low voltage. A previous sub-100mV-startup-voltage boost converter was...
The fastest ever 4.2 Gbps 3D-Solid State Drive (SSD) with multi-level cell (MLC) NAND flash memories is proposed. The proposed NAND channel number detector automatically detects the number of channels, that is, the number of NAND chips written at the same time. Based on the number of channels, the intelligent program-voltage booster adaptively optimizes the switching clock. As a result, the proposed...
We designed a concept of high resolution and quantitative SPECT for imaging a selected small region-of-interest (ROI) of human brain. This system is aimed at achieving high resolution less than 1 mm and being applied for imaging neurons and evaluating drug delivery system. Pinhole or cone-beam collimators are useful for high-resolution imaging of small ROI. However, when the ROI is smaller than the...
An asynchronous threshold detector for DC-960 MHz band impulse ultra-wideband (UWB) receiver is proposed in this paper. It features a DC power-free pulse discriminator. The proposed architecture in 90 nm CMOS achieves the lowest power consumption of 0.19 mW and energy consumption of 1.9 pJ/bit at 100 Mbps in the UWB receiver.
A low power impulse ultra-wideband (UWB) transceiver for DC-960 MHz band is proposed in this paper. It features a digital pulse-shaping transmitter, a DC power-free pulse discriminator and an error-recovery phase-frequency detector. The developed transceiver in 90 nm CMOS achieves the lowest energy consumption of 2.2 pJ/bit (TX) and 1.9 pJ/bit (RX) at 100 Mbps.
