We demonstrate on-chip multi-channel phase-sensitive amplification in a nonlinear waveguide, achieving 5 dB net gain and 15 dB extinction ratio. We show the manipulation of individual channels in a multi-channel scheme through controlling the initial phases.
This paper presents the current application situation of five-phase permanent magnet synchronous motor and control algorithms. The mathematical model is established through the coordinate transformation, meanwhile the linear decoupling equation of PMSM state is also derived, two-vector control algorithm (NTV-SVPWM) and four-vector control algorithm (NFV-SVPWM) are discussed especially. A modified...
The ideality factor of a 2 μm InGaSb/AlGaAsSb quantum well laser is investigated. The total ideality factor comes mainly from the central p-n junction and two metal-semiconductor junctions. It decreases from 4.0 to 3.3 when the temperature is increased from 20 to 80 oC.
Voltage control in the distribution system is becoming very challenging due to the enhanced number of control variables and the increasing penetration of distribution generations (e.g. photo-voltaic arrays). There is a need for new voltage control strategy considering fast control and four-quadrant operation of energy storage system in presence of the traditional voltage control devices like capacitor...
A multi-band operational MEMS microphone inspired by the hearing organ of Ormia ochracea is presented The novel feature is that the device has both integrated capacitive and piezoelectric sensing capability. Similar to our previous designs, the new design works as a bi-directional microphone and has four separate resonance frequencies below 10 kHz, with intended application for human speech recognition...
Reliability of door system is directly related to the operation safety of railway vehicles. However, door system is with high failure rate. Accurate detection of the early-stage incipient anomalies is an urgent need in the field of railway transportation. This paper proposes an Adaptive Mean Shift Clustering (AMSC) algorithm, which can successfully detect and isolate common and frequent anomalies...
A strategy for voltage harmonics suppression is proposed to upgrade existing grid-connected inverters. It utilizes the already available measurement of the voltage at the point of common connection and the inverter output current. As a result, on top of conventional power injection, the inverter is equipped with an additional feature for harmonics compensation. Model analysis, simulation and experiments...
Giant cluster-like vesicles (GCVs) encapsulating near-infrared fluorescent liposomes and X-ray contrast agents coated with lipids can play a multifunctional role, e.g. preoperatively and intraoperatively localizing tumors and reservoir of a fluorescent tracer for detecting sentinel lymph nodes if they are destroyed. We propose the method to assess the destruction of GCVs using the interaction between...
Thermal analysis for the single-axis fiber optic gyroscope is carried out, and the influence of the fiber-loop temperature field on gyro output is researched. In this paper, Fiber optic gyroscope model and fiber loop model are established and validated, then the temperature field of the gyroscope and fiber loop are simulated and analyzed. By comparing temperature nephograms of the fiber loop and the...
Interplanetary coronal mass ejections (ICMEs) compounded by high-speed plasma streams from coronal holes caused two intense geomagnetic storms on March 17–18, 2013 and 2015 during the current solar cycle. Ionospheric responses to the storms in the northern and southern hemispheres are compared in the context of solar wind coupling to the magnetosphere-ionosphere system. Phase scintillation is observed...
This paper reports on the performance of a sub-THz liquid sensor tool coupled to a microfluidic platform. Non-invasive, non-destructive and on-line measurements are demonstrated for the determination of ethanol concentration and for controlling bymicromixer device. We have developed a label-free chemical sensing methodology coupling a sub-terahertz sensor technology in microfluidic devices fabricated...
A novel control method for the walking assistance device using predefined walking trajectory used to walk for the elderly or the patients with weak leg muscle on stairs from plain more safely and naturally is proposed in this paper. Two control method, torque control and impedance control, used per their usage purpose are introduced, and the later one is focused in this paper. To make sure the use...
Phase-sensitive amplification (PSA) is a nonlinear optical interaction providing attractive functionalities for all-optical classical and quantum signal processing with a wide range of promising applications, such as regeneration of high modulation formats [1] and amplification of entangled single-photon sources [2]. To exploit PSA in a scalable and compact implementation, this technique has been...
This paper proposes a robust H∞ controller based on Multi-objective genetic algorithms (MOGAs) to control the active magnetic bearings (AMBs) with application to superfluid helium cryogenic centrifugal compressor (CCC). Basic weighting function formulas with seven parameters in all are suggested for H∞ controller, whose physical connections with system performance are clearly explained. Weighting...
The surface of the epoxy insulator was modified by direct fluorination in a laboratory vessel using a F2/N2 mixture with 12.5% F2 by volume at 55 °C and 0.1 MPa for 30 min. The modified surface was examined by ATR-FTIR and SEM techniques. ATR-FTIR results show substantial changes in chemical composition and structure of the surface layer by the fluorination, and SEM observations reveal the fluorinated...
Dielectric materials with high energy density have a wide range of applications in high-performance capacitors, sensors, brakes, spacecraft, and electric stress control devices. Adding inorganic filler in the polymer matrix is an effective way to increase the energy density of the polymer materials, the characteristics of composites and inorganic filler with high dielectric constant and high breakdown...
Benefitting from its non-volatility, low power, high speed, nearly infinite endurance, good scalability and great CMOS compatibility, magnetic tunnel junction (MTJ) embedded in conventional CMOS logic circuits has been proposed as one potentially powerful solution to introduce non-volatility in today's programmable logic circuits, which is envisioned to extend the Moore's law [1].
The brushless doubly-fed generator (BDFG) has the advantages of brushless structure, variable-speed constant-frequency operation, flexibly controllable active and reactive powers, low converter capacity and cost, and so on, which is very suitable for the wind power generation, especially the large wind turbines and offshore wind farm [1].
