The paper shows the possibility of rapid extraction from more frequent ionograms not only strong medium-scale traveling ionospheric disturbances (MSTIDs) in the F region in the form of cusps and hooks, but also weak MSTIDs, whose form may differ from the cusp (hook) shaped. To isolate these MSTIDs will be enough to follow the slope of the F layer cusp (about the critical frequency). Another important...
The paper describes the statistical investigation of short-lived traces (look like Es), which was performed using the A, H-, and AΣ-maps. These maps were obtained by ionogram treatment with high time resolution (1 ionogram per minute) for 2013–2014. The observed results of such Es occurrence statistics have a similar variation with some meteor showers activity peaks.
Ionospheric disturbance was observed in ionograms at Kazan, Russia $$(55.85^\circ \hbox {N}, 48.81^\circ \hbox {E})$$ ( 55 . 85 ∘ N , 48 . 81 ∘ E ) , associated with the M8.8 Chile earthquake in 2010 $$(35.91^\circ \hbox {S}, 72.73^\circ \hbox {W})$$ ( 35 . 91 ∘ S , 72 . 73 ∘ W ) . The disturbance was caused by infrasound waves that were launched by seismic Rayleigh waves...
Since 2010 long term observations by ionosonde in Kazan with 1-min intervals is made. Such operating mode allows rare effects occurring in ionosphere and caused by earthquakes and big explosions would be record in ionogram. In paper the characteristic features (signature) of severe events are detected in ionograms when the epicenter was at a great distance. The revealed signatures are a F1 layering,...
