We report the design and operation of a nonlinear intersubband polaritonic metasurface for mid-infrared second harmonic generation. The metasurface is made of plasmonic nanoresonators filled with a multiple-quantum-well semiconductor heterostructure. Unlike the previously reported nonlinear intersubband polaritonic metasurfaces that employ full-metal backplanes below the etched metal–semiconductor...
We design and fabricate an on-chip spectrometer based on an evanescently-coupled multimode spiral waveguide. Evanescent coupling between waveguide arms greatly enhances the spectral resolution, reaching 10pm at wavelength 1520nm with a footprint of 500μ×500μ.
We propose a novel and ultrasensitive scheme of rotation sensing by measuring farfield intensity from an asymmetric microcavity laser. We optimize the cavity shape and show the farfield sensitivity is enhanced by introducing structural chirality.
We measured directly long-range spatial intensity correlations inside quasi-two-dimensional disordered photonic waveguides. Enhancement of long-range correlations is observed in narrower waveguides due to stronger localization effects, which enables manipulation of intensity correlations inside random media.
Position-dependent diffusion of light is observed experimentally in quasi-two-dimensional disordered optical waveguides. Strong wave interference effects make the diffusion coefficient depend on the size and shape of the random medium as well as the dissipation.
We showed numerically rotation causes much larger changes of quality factor and emission pattern of resonant modes than frequency shift in open dielectric microcavities, providing possible alternative schemes of rotation sensing than using Sagnac effect.
