Connection provisioning with survivability has become very critical in optical networks in order to meet the increasing bandwidth requirements of applications. Shared path protection is a promising technique to provide survivability in network, but this technique also suffers from some redundancy in network. In this paper we have surveyed algorithms that support provisioning of connections with shared path protection and mixed shared path protection. Different connection provisioning strategies have been compared with respect to complexity and blocking probability. This paper focuses on exploiting the knowledge of holding time of connections to make an advance reservation of connection request in a given larger window, which will reduce blocking for future connections. For this purpose paper we proposed an enhancement in HT-AGSDP algorithm [1], that already exploit the knowledge of connection holding time in making choice of primary and backup path connection...
Ethernet Passive Optical Networks (EPONS) are a low-cost high-speed broadband access solutions for today's bandwidth hungry applications. While, downstream transmission in broadcast, upstream poses many a problems. The most critical challenge is to be able to allocate bandwidth among contending users while keeping starvation down and giving everyone a chance to transmit if they want. In this paper,...
Several switching architectures like circuit switching, packet switching and burst switching have been proposed and developed for efficient utilization of high speed optical networks. Among these Dynamic Optical Circuit Switching (DOCS) has been found to be more useful for provisioning requests in backbone (core) networks due to its capability to provide huge bandwidth by establishing high capacity...
To meet the demands of ever increasing bandwidth hungry applications architectures like circuit switching, packet switching and burst switching have been proposed in the literature. Dynamic Optical Circuit Switching (DOCS) is the optical counter part of the circuit switching; it can provide huge bandwidth to the end users by establishing high capacity light-paths. For provisioning requests in DOCS...
Advance reservation is a technique employed so that a request is guaranteed 100% availability of the resource it applied for sometimes earlier. In this paper we introduce the concept of advance reservation of lightpaths for a certain request characterized by some source and multiple destinations and also the time when network resources are demanded. We first present a point to multipoint adaptive...
Bandwidth demands of new applications, particularly the multimedia services have stimulated the technological advancements in wireless and optical fields. Subscribers now demand much more capacity. Providing such high capacity is possible by integrating the high capacity of optical networks and flexibility of radio networks. Certain problems exist in the existing radio-over-fiber (RoF) architectures...
One of the issues in Optical Burst Switching (OBS) scheme is that it does not ensure safe and lossless transmission. There is always a probability of burst loss associated with this phenomenon. To solve this problem a new scheme, bimodal burst switching was proposed which ensures a zero burst loss probability. In order to support different types of prioritized traffic over the same network, Quality...
We work to solve the problem of efficient wavelength utilization in WDM EPON. This problem is highlighted because it plays an important role for the up-gradation of WDM EPON implemented in the access. In WDM EPON we have multiple channels available. Channel utilization is dependent on the supportability of the channel by ONUs. Each ONU want to transmit its data to OLT as soon as it is queued at the...
Radio-over-fiber (RoF) is a promising technology with a number of benefits including huge bandwidth, high reliability, transparency and flexibility that makes it attractive to fulfill future broadband application requirements. Such dasiaoptical-wireless networkpsila architectures have potential to support broadband wireless access over 1 Gbps. Developing a cost-effective bi-directional solution that...
While talking about Bandwidth Management for WDM EPONs it is required to be noted that it takes the evolutionary advantage of number of available optical transmission channels that are available in spectrum and explore this problem for the evolutionary up-gradation of WDM EPONs. The problem is the efficient utilization of the wavelengths in a given EPON in a dynamic manner. From the provided and supported...
Wavelength Division Multiplexed based Passive Optical Networks (WDM-PON) are subjected to wide variety of incidental failures. It is preferred in WDM-PONs to provide fault management (survivability) at link layer level. In this paper, our objective is to determine the factors, which can increase the scope of survivability at link layer, not available currently. We propose a cost-effective recovery...
We have carried out analysis of dynamic network traffic for WDM networks through simulation in order to reduce blocking probability. Our proposed algorithm optimally utilizes the available network resources by reducing control overheads. Previously the algorithm was proposed for source-initiated reservation with global state information. It was proved that source initiated reservation performs better...
